December had arrived, and snow hit the window the first thing in the morning. I was a ball of happiness that day, bragging to my parents how I was going to play all day outside. Despite in the end, the cold bit me too hard and I retreated to the house.

I was just a bundle of happiness, or so my parents used to tell me as they tucked me into sleep every night. Our routine should've stayed that way, my naive mind didn't think it would change.

With each passing nights, the virus spread as hard. It originated from USA and spread to the entire world, my country was far off- to say it was a country was an understatement, rather a very small village was more appropriate- yet it didn't take long for the virus to hit the place.

I remembered cries, screams and shrieks as children collapsed on the floor and some broke out in seizures. I caught a few glimpses of the virus, expect the death, I saw vines covering children or some were able to move the water of the toilets and control them. They were poorly managed, and they easily lost control of their powers.

The memory wasn't vivid now, other than the sounds of gunshots and my parents dragging me to the house. The highly contagious virus might've even been airborne, considering I was infected within hours despite my parents efforts to make sure I couldn't catch it.

The sight of my parents face filled with fear was something that still remained vivid to this day. The fact they realized what I was before I did, I was a monster.

The military dragged me away by force, cuffed my hands and shoved me into a vehicle. That was the last day I remembered seeing my parents, afterwards I was hauled up at a factory. Children was separated with different colours, blue, brown, yellow, white and finally there was me. Green.

I was tested with an advanced machine, and ever since cooped up in an oversized machine with few green kids.

At some point I forgot how outside looked.

Years had passed ever since, darting to this day.

----

"Watch it!" One of the military guy shoved one of the girl with a green band around her arm. She jerked up and walked forward, the heat was likely getting to her, slowly. I wasn't much far off, my hands was tightly kept around the cuffs and my body was sluggish. The guards had simply given up on hurrying us as well, surprisingly enough, it seemed they didn't fight against the sun burning brightly- and rather in a similar state as us.

There wasn't only green kids however, with a reluctant glance behind me. I saw glimpses of several other colours. Yellow, blue and white. Possibly more but I couldn't exactly look back for more with the guards hot on my trail.

I took another deep breath, wishing for some water while my feet forcefully dragged across the ground. I was wondering why I was forced out of my room, and it led to this. At this point, I still weren't sure why they forced us to walk across campus.

Was I about to be at death front door? After so many years, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. I saw far too many kids being shot or brutally dragged away to some unforseen place.

There was a punishment for defying orders, and they weren't pretty.

It led to the baddest kids to behave, and even now as we grew in size and evolved to an underdeveloped teen. It wasn't surprising when we barely got the nutritions we needed or much less water for that matter.

My train of thoughts came to a halt when one of the dangerous colours, brown- yelled and dug their hands into the ground. My eyes widened to see the ground tearing apart beneath my feet, I gasped in surprise and jumped off to the side. I slid on the ground harshly, my arm pained as I sat up and eyed the scene.

Teens was going hectic and ran about, the military tried to shoot most who attempted to jump out of the campus fences. While the others tried to comprehend the brown band kid.

I didn't waste a minute.

I snapped out of my dazed state and jumped up, like a cheetah, I darted across the ground to the fences. With a quick glance at the guards. I raised my voice and shifted myself to touch the grass beneath my feet near the fences. "Die!" My eyes burned a bright colour of green as vines grew from the forest and attacked the man with the gun.

He was unarmed within seconds and others met the same fate. I didn't try to kill them expect knocking them out cold despite my words. I was never one for violence, and I preferred to not have blood on my hands.

I jumped up and grabbed the chains, I strugged due to my arms tightly cuffed but I managed. As soon as I was in between the fences, I turned around to the side and closed my eyes to embrace the impact.

I groaned in pain when my body fell to the side, my body ached everywhere and the headache- I already had due to the gunshots and awful lot screaming- might've signaled a concussion. These fences wasn't at all short, rather tall.

Without caring I had bruises, I ran into the woods and didn't stop. My chest heaved up and down, my eyes glowed brighter while behind me- vines grew and shielded me from the remaining armed men from shooting me.

As if a miracle happened, I was free and out.

My lips turned upwards, and for the first time in 9 years.

I smiled brightly with pure joy and let out a choked laugh. "I'm free!" I raised my arms and glanced around before I slowly stopped. My feet dragged across the ground, some small twigs already in my flesh but I couldn't care about it. The scene in front of me simply was that alerting.

.. Almost each kid was shot.

As if to rub in my situation, a gunshot went off. My eyes was round as the bullet went past my sight and into the tree barks, stopped in its fast movements. Holy shit.

I turned around and ran off again, my eyes narrowed and tears swelled inside them. The vines protecting me again while I tried to run away as far as my legs could take me before giving in. While my thoughts increased, and I realized.

There was no green kid remaining, were there?

Hope this book was enjoyable! A heavily inspired one and there is several noticeable differences. The powers are different and it isn't exactly ranked, this will be explained in the next chapter!
