The four men stepped out of the boat and onto the sandy shore of Rennell Island. They were Daniel, David, Joseph, and Samuel, a group of Solomon Islander religious leaders who traveled the archipelago investigating mythical creatures, as well as supernatural and paranormal activities. They had been invited by the local chief to examine a mysterious phenomenon that had been plaguing the island for the past few weeks.
"Thank you for coming, brothers," the chief greeted them warmly. "We are in great need of your help."
"What is the problem, chief?" Daniel asked.
"It is hard to explain," the chief said. "But something evil is stirring in the depths of the lake. Something that has been dormant since the last glacial period."
The lake he was referring to was Lake Tegano, the largest freshwater lake in the South Pacific and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was formed by the rising sea level that flooded the crater of an ancient volcano. The lake was home to many unique species of plants and animals, some of which were endemic to the island.
"What kind of evil?" David asked.
"We do not know," the chief said. "But we have seen strange lights and heard eerie sounds coming from the lake at night. Some of our fishermen have gone missing, and others have returned with tales of horrific creatures lurking in the water. Some say they have seen the shadow of a giant serpent, others say they have seen the eyes of a demon. We are afraid to go near the lake, and our crops and livestock are suffering."
"Have you tried to appease the spirit of the lake?" Joseph asked.
"Yes, we have," the chief said. "We have offered sacrifices and prayers, but nothing has worked. We fear that the spirit of the lake is angry with us, or that it has been corrupted by a darker force."
"Perhaps it is not the spirit of the lake, but something else," Samuel suggested.
"What do you mean?" the chief asked.
"Maybe it is something that came from the outside, something that was trapped in the ice during the last glacial period and has now awakened," Samuel said.
"Like what?" the chief asked.
"Like an ancient evil, a primordial entity, a fallen angel," Samuel said.
The chief shuddered. "Is there any way to stop it?"
"We will try to find out," Daniel said. "We will need to go to the lake and see for ourselves."
"Are you sure?" the chief asked. "It is very dangerous."
"We are not afraid," Daniel said. "We have faith in God, and we have each other."
The chief nodded. "Then I wish you good luck, brothers. May God be with you."
The four men thanked the chief and prepared to leave. They gathered their equipment, which included a boat, a flashlight, a camera, a recorder, a Bible, a cross, and a bottle of holy water. They also wore protective vests and helmets, as well as gloves and boots. They did not know what they would encounter, but they wanted to be ready for anything.
They boarded the boat and headed towards the lake. The sun was setting, and the sky was turning from blue to orange. The lake was calm and quiet, but they could feel a sense of dread in the air. They prayed silently as they approached the center of the lake, where the phenomenon was said to be the strongest.
They turned on their flashlight and scanned the water. They saw nothing but darkness and ripples. They turned on their camera and recorder and started to document their investigation.
"Hello, this is Daniel, David, Joseph, and Samuel, and we are here at Lake Tegano on Rennell Island, Solomon Islands. We are here to investigate a possible case of supernatural activity involving something evil that has been disturbing the lake and the islanders. We are now at the center of the lake, where the activity is supposed to be the most intense. We are going to try to communicate with whatever is causing this and find out what it wants and how to stop it. If you are listening, please show yourself and speak to us. We mean you no harm. We are here to help you and the islanders. Please, reveal yourself and speak to us."
They waited for a response, but there was only silence. They repeated their message, but still nothing. They started to wonder if they were wasting their time, or if they had been misled by the islanders.
"Maybe there is nothing here," David said.
"Maybe we should go back," Joseph said.
"Maybe we should try something else," Samuel said.
"Like what?" Daniel asked.
"Like provoking it," Samuel said.
"Provoking it?" Daniel asked.
"Yes, maybe it will respond if we challenge it or insult it," Samuel said.
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Daniel asked.
"It's worth a try," Samuel said.
"Alright, then," Daniel said. "But be careful."
Samuel cleared his throat and spoke loudly and boldly.
"Hey, you! You coward! You weakling! You monster! You think you can scare us with your lights and sounds and creatures? You think you can harm us with your power and malice? You think you can hide from us in the dark? Well, you are wrong! We are not afraid of you! We are not impressed by you! We are not fooled by you! We know who you are! You are nothing but a relic of the past, a remnant of the ice, a fallen angel of the abyss! You have no place in this world, no right to this lake, no authority over these people! You are a trespasser, an intruder, an enemy! You are a sinner, a rebel, a traitor! You are a loser, a failure, a loser! You are doomed, damned, doomed! You are nothing, nothing, nothing!"
Samuel stopped and waited for a reaction. The other three men looked at him with a mix of admiration and apprehension. They wondered if he had gone too far, or if he had hit a nerve.
They did not have to wait long to find out.
Suddenly, the water began to bubble and boil. The temperature rose rapidly, and steam filled the air. The boat started to rock and shake. The flashlight flickered and died. The camera and recorder malfunctioned and stopped working. The men felt a surge of fear and panic.
They heard a loud and deep roar that echoed across the lake. They saw a huge and dark shape emerge from the water. It was a serpent, a dragon, a leviathan. It had scales and spikes, claws and teeth, eyes and horns. It was ancient and evil, powerful and malevolent. It was the thing they had come to face, the thing they had provoked, the thing they had awakened.
It looked at them with hatred and fury. It opened its mouth and spoke in a voice that chilled their bones.
"Who are you to challenge me? Who are you to insult me? Who are you to awaken me? You are nothing but insects, worms, dust. You are nothing but fools, mortals, sinners. You are nothing but prey, food, meat. You have no idea what you have done, what you have unleashed, what you have doomed. You have no idea who I am, what I am, why I am. I am the lord of the lake, the king of the deep, the prince of the power of the air. I am the ancient of days, the son of the morning, the star of the dawn. I am the dragon, the serpent, the devil. I am Lucifer, Satan, the Antichrist. I am everything, everything, everything!"
The thing lunged at them, ready to devour them. The men screamed and prayed, but it was too late. They had no chance, no hope, no escape. They had met their end, their doom, their fate.
