Sukuna's senses are assaulted by the stench of booze and cigarettes the moment he walks in the door. The old television is on, his mother sitting on the old, dark blue couch. She raises the cigarette to her lips shaded in ruby red from her favorite lipstick that she steals from the store down the street.

"Where the hell were ya?" She snaps, voice raspy from all the cigarettes she's been smoking since she was thirteen.

"None of your business." Sukuna goes to the kitchen, opening the fridge. The leftover food he had saved with his name on it was gone, instantly putting him in a worse mood. It was bad enough he had to drop Megumi off at that real-life dollhouse with those psychos and now he can't even eat.

His mother scoffs, standing up. She takes another puff before pointing her finger at him. "Oh I know where you were. Off with that uppity little twat."

"He has a name." Sukuna glares at her, shutting the fridge. If anyone knows how to get under his skin, then it's his mother. A miserable woman who takes it out on everyone around her, trailer trash who tried to enter the world that Megumi was born into and was spit back out with only Sukuna as her proof she existed there for a moment.

She scoffs, a condescending grin on her face. Her mascara is smeared under her eyes and her roots showing, her hair unkept.

"Oh yeah? Ya think that little snob is gonna give a shit about ya? Look where ya live, a trailer park. You're just a toy before he gets rid of ya, we don't belong in their world, kid." She shakes her head, her leg shaking. "You're never gonna be a damn thing to him."

"Don't project onto me because you believed my father's lies and got knocked up." Sukuna retorts, seeing the visible rage on her face. She grabs her glass ashtray, throwing it at him. He manages to dodge, the ashtray smashing against the wall.

"Fuck you! Don't come cryin' when that little bitch shoves you aside! You're your mother's son, you're gonna end up just like me." She sneers, furious by the look of disgust on her son's face. She's always despised him, he looks so much like his father that it sickens her to her core. The man that promised her everything and took everything from her, kicking her to the curb. Pregnant and abandoned.

"I'm nothing like you." Sukuna grabs his car keys, storming out of the trailer. He can't control how he grew up or that he has to live in this dump with a woman he hates, but he can be better. What he feels for Megumi is real and not that he believes it but at even the slightest possibility that Megumi doesn't feel it back, it doesn't matter.

It doesn't erase the wonderful memories they created, it wouldn't make Sukuna cherish them less.

He's at a loss, trying to navigate this unfair world and if it weren't for Megumi, who could understand his pain and soothe it, he probably would've lost sight of who he is supposed to be. Who he wants to be.

It's always so strange to be loved so sincerely by someone when no one had loved you before. His mother has always been neglectful and has always brought strange men home. Some who have been cruel with their words and even abusive towards Sukuna and she didn't do a thing about it.

Megumi is a gentle soul, he's soft but he doesn't break easily. He falls apart and puts his pieces back together, crying and struggling but he does it.

For Sukuna, he does the same thing. He doesn't let Sukuna suffer on his own, his hands are small and so delicate when he holds Sukuna. His kisses are like an antidote to the pain, his laugh bringing enjoyment in Sukuna's usually dreary days.

It's been that way since they were children. Megumi has always... loved Sukuna, was thankful for his existence when no one had before. Sukuna is going to be better than his mother, that woman has always hated the world and blames everyone else without taking responsibility for her own actions.

He checks his phone, disappointed to see he doesn't have a call or text from Megumi. He must've went right to sleep, they had an eventful night.

Sukuna feels uneasy when he still hasn't received a call or text from Megumi. It's a work day for him so he should be focused solely on the job but without confirmation that his boyfriend is alright, how can he?

"Hey, the lady will be back to pick her car up in two hours. Get to it!" His boss snaps, noticing Sukuna zoned out while looking at his phone. With a grumble, he puts his phone into his back pocket. If it buzzes, he'll know right away.

If Sukuna had a talent other than being able to please his boyfriend, then it's fixing cars. This job pays well enough, he's been saving since he started working here. He knows he can never be a billionaire from some elite company, he will never be seen as a worthy candidate for Megumi in the eyes of his boyfriend's family.

But he's still going to believe him and Megumi can continue to be together. He saves every dime from his paycheck, only spending his tips if he makes any. If his costumers are happy enough with the job or are feeling generous.

Megumi has never behaved spoiled but that doesn't mean Sukuna doesn't want to spoil him. Even if Megumi could have any materialistic thing with a wave of his hand.

A house. A ring, eventually. Sukuna is already planning ahead for them and he hopes Megumi has thought ahead about their future as well. It's something they haven't talked about, they always enjoy the moments they have and if they do talk about problems, it's always about their households.

"Sukuna, I got someone on the phone for ya." His boss calls in from the front. Sukuna wipes his dirty hands on the red rag nearby before making his way in. His boss gives him an impatient expression as he hands him the phone.

     "Who's this?" Sukuna grumpily questions.

      "It's Naoya–"

"What the hell do you want?" Sukuna questions, eyebrows furrowing.

"Megumi got caught sneaking back in. He got... punished, really bad. He's not eating and he'd kill me if I was telling you this so don't be a snitch. He's been starving himself again, did you know?" Naoya questions on the other end. He's out of options and he may not like Sukuna very much, but Megumi trusts him and that's enough.

Sukuna knew something was off, no matter how tired Megumi may be, he always replies. "Fuck, are you serious?" Sukuna looks at the clock, contemplating what he should do.

"For whatever reason, Megumi cares for you. Fix him and get him to eat something. Call or text, I don't care. He's the only family I have, so I can't let him continue doing this to himself." Naoya doesn't wait for Sukuna's response as he hangs up the phone.

"Get back to work if you're done." His boss grumbles much to Sukuna's displeasure. He has one car to work on and complete today, if he focuses and skips his break, he can make it over to Megumi's before it's too late.
