Light, cold drops fell onto [Y/N]'s skin, waking her from what seemed to be a slumber comparable to being in a coma. As she slowly faded back into consciousness; her vision was blurred and her mind was pure, distorted static. She looked around a bit and found herself laying on a solid floor with dark walls to her sides.
"W-what the hell?" [Y/N] rubbed her eyes and gradually found the strength to sit up.
That's when she realized she was in an alley somewhere. She had no idea where, but she did know one thing for sure: she was probably having some sort of fever dream. She looked up and saw buildings and dark clouds that shielded the area from any sun. The rain was getting heavier, and the polluted and smoggy air filled her lungs with further disorientation. To her right, she heard what sounded like punches being thrown and cheering down the street. To her left, she just heard bustling and chatter.
Curiosity overruled her confused state, and [Y/N] cautiously stood up from the ground. She slowly walked out of the alley to be stunned at what she saw. All around her were bright lights, many of them neon signs advertising businesses. Produce and apothecary stands stood on the sides of the cobblestone street. Most of the owners looked mysterious with cloaks on, as if they were up to nefarious activity. There were small creatures that looked somewhat like fireflies buzzing around the intriguing scenery, and the people that lived here dressed with an interesting mix of steampunk and medieval clothing.
How was [Y/N] dreaming up something this random and detailed? And how did the rain and other surroundings feel so real? She had never had a dream this vivid before, but this one was realistic to the degree where it was starting to make her nervous.
After a while of hesitantly peaking around the corner, [Y/N] walked out onto the narrow road that was filled with pedestrians. Out of the blue, she heard whistling from directly behind her. Startled, she turned around and saw a man much bigger and taller than her. A creepy, unsettling grin tugged at his lips; and he chuckles were hinted with malice.
Throughly weirded out by the predator, she walked into another small alley nearby to escape the crowd. After walking back into the corridor a bit further, she leaned against the wall and tried to collect herself.
The quiet moment was interrupted by two women climbing down the walls on an unstable ladder. One of them had a muscular build, bright red hair and a red jacket that was closer to the ground, and jumped off a few feet above to get down faster. The girl above her was slightly taller and slimmer with dark blue hair that was up in a ponytail, and taking her time cautiously making her way down.
"Seriously, Vi?" The blue haired girl sighed and rolled her eyes.
"What?"
"Why do you always have to show off? I am well aware my agility pales in comparison to yours."
The red haired girl shrugged and chuckled, "Awww, Cupcake is jealous of my sweet skills."
"I am not," Cupcake insisted.
"Are too," Vi retorted.
"Cupcake" paused for a moment, trying to think of a response, but just sighed, "No matter, we need to focus if we're going to continue on this... mission."
"Aye aye, captain."
Suddenly, the girl with red hair turned her head and locked her gaze with [Y/N]'s, who was immediately captivated by her intimidating but charming demeanor.
