They didn't come again.

I should have already come to terms with this after so many disappointments, but I always think that next time it will be different.

Perhaps, they will create some awareness about the only child they left behind in the care of the servants.

It was like that since I was a child.

And there were expensive gifts to try to erase the absence, as if I needed an unlimited card, branded things—I wanted my parents' presence, was that too much to ask?

I wanted to spend Christmas with them instead of a beautiful—but lonely—Christmas tree with lots of presents underneath that I'm going to open alone.

A video call message wasn't enough.

But then again, I should be used to it by now—however, I wasn't.

It was painfully lonely, eating alone at a table that was too big, living in a house that was too big — having everything money could buy, but not having the essentials of my parents by my side.

Of course I knew that the hospital was important, its work helped people all over the world, its lectures and everything else, however, I only wanted the two human beings who put me in the world.

I apparently had a perfect life, but that was far from the truth.

My parents were traveling all the time and when they were at home the hospital took up all their time, always leaving them in the background.

It was frustration along with the pain of absence that made me get into trouble on the street.

A teenager who didn't know how to vent his anger found violence as a way to deal with all this shit—and the constant pressure of being the perfect Prince Charming.

There was the delinquent, and the model student.

And sometimes it seems very difficult to differentiate between them, but I had already lost myself in these two characters.

I didn't even know who the real Kim Minjun was.

I was a fake.

It was in one of these street fights that I met Park Jihyun, the boy who had more secrets than he could handle.

Just like me, he was a fuckup.

His absent parents, problems with street fights.

It was like a mirror, we were similar in a way and a strong bond of friendship had begun.

He took me to his uncle's boxing gym and we started training together.

And it was at the boxing gym that we became friends with Yoon Kwan.

Another fucked up like us.

So we became a trio.

“Dongsaeng, are you listening?” Kwan snapped his fingers in my face to get my attention.

"Huh? What?"

"Are you in the moon world, Jun?"

"It was nothing, what is it?"

"Third year Lee Jihoon is having a party.", he replied, which seemed to be the topic of conversation since I got lost in my own mind.

My morning had been shit.

"What's the matter?"

"And what's wrong?", Kwan repeated, throwing a bottle of water at me. "He invited us."

"Um, okay."

Jihyun raised an eyebrow.

"What did your parents get up to this time?"

I gave a fake smile.

"It seems I'm not pleasant to be around."

“They canceled the trip again?” Kwan said in disbelief. "What idiots, saeng."

"It's not the first time, but I thought this time would be different."

“Our parents are shit, saeng.”, said Jihyun.

"That's probably why we're so fucked up.", Kwan laughed humorlessly. "I'm going to smoke, are you coming?"

"No.", I denied, turning my eyes to the court, where some first-year boys were playing. “Try not to get caught, hyung!

"Leave it!", Yoon raised his thumbs up and ran out of the gym with the school uniform blazer over his left shoulder.

Jihyun looked at me.

"Is there archery club practice after school?"

I shake my head.

"I took my name from the club."

"WHAT?", he screamed.

"I was only there because of my father." I shrugged, getting up from the stands. "Now I'm just at the football club."

The bell was about to ring.

"And Coach Goo let you leave?"

"The rookie will take my place as captain."

He laughed in disbelief.

"By the way, hyung... Did you do your biology homework?" I asked looking over his shoulder at him.

"You did not?"

"Um, no... I got really pissed about my parents and drank a bottle of soju and totally forgot about it."

"Did you get drunk last night?"

"Yes, I was.", I said impatiently. "Now come on, I don't want my reputation to be ruined."

He laughed, as he wrapped an arm around my neck and guided me out of the gym.

And despite how fucked up my life was, I was grateful to have two amazing friends by my side.
