Aaron's POV

This cold, all white room that smelled of medicine and fear had become quite familiar to me over the past year.

The first time I came here was August 19, the summer I would be going into my sophomore year of High School. I had been getting constant gum bleeding, bone pain, shortness of breath and, I bruised easily so my parents did what every other parent would to, take me to a doctor.

But after going to a countless number of doctors, only to have them tell me the same thing; there was nothing wrong with me only common sicknesses, my parents finally took me to a doctor out of state. We flew to California to see one of the top doctors out there. He examined my symptoms along with my health, only to come to one devastating conclusion.

I had acute myeloid leukemia. This announcement had shook my whole family.

After hearing this I had decided not to tell any friends, especially Liv Davies, my best friend and crush, but no one knew that. As much as I knew I would end up telling them sooner or later I didn't want sympathy. Sympathy never felt sincere. To me it had always felt as if someone were pretending to try and understand my situation just to make me feel better. But the truth was they didn't understand it at all. None of them had to fight a life treating disease that prevented them from doing things they loved. Because of having stupid leukemia I was no longer able to play soccer or be outside and play tag with my little cousins without getting winded after 1 minute or bruising by getting pushed around a little by a 2 year old. None of them understood the constant fear that they could be rushed to the hospital or die at any given moment whether it be tomorrow or next year.

A few weeks after finding out about my cancer school started up again. I got to see my friends again. Of course I saw Liv over the summer, I just hasn't seen her since finding out about my cancer because I didn't want to accidentally give myself away and get her fake pity.

But now she would see through my mask, and so would everyone else. All of my teachers new about it and respected my decision. I wouldn't be able to go up the stairs or participate in gym because of my cancer.

When the first period bell rung I walked with Liv to the elevator.

"Come on Aaron what are you doing? We can't take the elevator, we don't have a pass." She laughed at me.

Nervously I replied back showing her my pass. "Actually, I do."

She looked at me confused. "Why?"

Oh god. This what I was trying to avoid. "Umm, I have a knee problem so I can't walk up the stairs." I told her hoping she would believe me. I had decided that I would tell her about my sickness after my birthday, September 26.

Thank god she did because she just nodded and boarded the elevator with me to go to first period.

After we went to lunch we had gym and of course I couldn't participate. All of my friends, except Liv, looked at me confused.

"Why are sitting man?" My friend Jason asked me followed by a bunch of 'yeas' and 'whys' from my other friends.

I felt my face get hot because I was embarrassed.

"He hurt his knee guys." Liv backed me up and I just nodded.

Towards the end of gym they started to play basketball and I saw a ball coming my way. I didn't have enough time to process the whole thing so the ball hit my leg and I could already see a bruise forming.

Liv came running towards me. "Oh my god, Aaron. Are you okay?" She asked and looked at my leg that was now bruised.

"Yea I'm fine."

"How did that bruise get there so fast?"

I looked at her nervously. "Umm it was already there." I quickly lied hoping it was believable.

"Okay then." She didn't look convinced but she walked away and brushed it off.

...

I had a lot of fun writing this actually. Like I've never been so excited to write a story. This was a short chapter kind of, I think it was like 7-8 pages. Anyways I hope you enjoyed it and don't forget to comment, vote, and add to your library.
