❀Are you fucking serious?
"If I missed anyone and you don't have a partner assigned to you, please meet me at the front."
She didn't miss you, but for fucks sake, he's the last person you'd want to be partnered with. Standing up, you grumpily waltzed your way to the teachers desk, having your mind set on switching partners.
"Mrs. Freya?" You say, trying to keep your voice as steady as possible.
"I just called your name. What else could you need?" She sighed.
"No- I know, it's just that.. I need a different partner." You began to anxiously rock back and forth on your heels, hoping coming up here wasn't a mistake.
"You can't switch."
Mrs. Freya deadpans."What? No-" You shake your head incredulously, "Please? There's probably someone else that wants to switch too."
Mrs. Freya lazily glanced around the classroom, and looked at you with little interest. "Nothing I can do for you, L/n. Mazel tov,"
You scoffed, but you can't argue with a teacher, so you B-Line your way to your seat only to find him standing there. Your nose scrunched in disgust.
"Really?" Chris laughed, "I'm not that bad, Am I?"
"Whatever, Chris." You pushed past the brunet to take a seat, and he pulled a chair up next to you. "Let's just fill out these forms-"
The bell rang.
"Everyone, come collect your babies and make sure you get those forms filled out today!"
You went to stand up, but Chris used a big hand to grasp your shoulder, keeping you in your seat.
"Chris?" You were seething with anger now, and Chris thought he almost saw smoke come out of your ears. "Get off me."
"Sorry," His hand quickly went to his side, "Can I get your number?"
You rolled your eyes, "For what?"
"For the project?" He said, like it was obvious. The classroom had already emptied out for the most part, but you two still sat there.
That's embarrassing. "Oh, right. Umm, here," You clicked create new contact on your phone, and allowed Chris to punch his number in. His contact was simple, reading chris 🍊.
"Why the orange?" You chuckled, but disguised it as you clearing your throat.
"I dunno," he shrugged. "It's my favorite color."
"Okay..." You rolled your eyes and the both of you got up to collect your things, and you raced to the teachers desk to collect your 'baby.' It was a cute brown-skinned doll, but it was almost uncanny valley to look at. You always hated dolls—they gave you the heebie-jeebies—even as a little girl. You'd argue stuffed animals were better, and you'd rather take care of one of those.
"It's actually kind of cute," Chris noted, snatching the doll from your hands and cradling it in his own. "What're we naming it?"
"'Fuck if I know," You deadpan, Chris following you as you strolled out into the hallway into the swarm of students.
"Is it a boy or a girl?" He pressed on.
"God, Chris, I don't know."
"Well, we have to decide..."
"Maybe it's non-binary."
You looked to your left to see who budded into your conversation with Chris, and Nick was suddenly walking beside you. You couldn't be more relieved with his presence.
"Nick, you just saved my life."
Smug as can be, Nick shrugged. "All in a days work. Hey, where'd you get that doll from?" Nick tilted his head to point at Chris.
"From class. We have The Baby Project."
Nick curled his lips in disgust, and he snatched the doll from Chris, holding it in the air by its leg. "What fucking class assigned you this?"
"I actually don't know."
You snapped your head to your right to glare at Chris, "You seriously don't know what that class is called?"
"I never payed attention in it."
You sighed, furrowing your brows as Nick gave you a sympathetic look. "Health Economics." You answered him.
"Oh, the elective." Nick threw the baby to you, and you almost dropped it. "Well, I'll let you guys get to it!"
You watched in disappointment as Nick strolled away, his figure slowly disappearing into the crowd of teenagers. You stopped at your locker, expecting Chris to find his own way, but he just stood right next to you. Way too close for comfort.
"What is it now, Christopher?"
"Ooo, my full name, I'm scared," He mocked.
You ignore his antics, and begin packing up anything you needed from your locker. You just wanted to get home.
"Hey," He slightly pushed your shoulder, and that's what sent you off edge. You slammed your locker, turned around to face him, and had to resist the urge to slap him across the face.
"I really don't need you fucking pestering me all the time. It's not funny, Chris. Either tell me what the fuck you want, or leave me the fuck alone. I just wanna get this stupid project over with, and you're not helping this go by any faster."
Stunned, a sad wrinkled appeared between his lowered eyebrows, and it was obvious he was embarrassed. "Geez, I'm sorry."
"Sure you are."
"Wait," Chris grabs your shoulder again, not making the situation any better. Sending the brunet an angry glare, you completely forget all about the form as you storm out the building. Baby on one shoulder and backpack on the other, you made your way to your car as fast as you can, needing to get your siblings, and needing to get home. God, you just wanted to sulk in bed.
