Agate is an arrow waiting to be released, and the tension is building up.
Agate received the text at approximately 2:04 PM, Thursday. She felt her phone vibrate, resisted the urge to peek since she was in Chem and Professor Martins was strict, and continued doodling.
What Agate did not know was that Alexander had sent that text, and he had been saving that particular text for an unassuming day like today. He had been trying to hit send, but somehow, he couldn't do it. Not until today.
Later, Agate would wonder what she did wrong. But for now, she was still blissfully unaware of anything. After school let out, she went to her locker, put her books in, and grabbed her backpack. Today she had a meeting for student government, and she was currently having an argument with other members over the location of their student fair.
After the meeting, she drove to the coffee shop and asked for an espresso and a latte; one for her, one for Alexander. She still hadn't read the text.
After receiving the cups of coffee and paying for them, she checked her phone and opened the message Alexander sent her.
Agate almost dropped her coffee, but she managed to grab hold of it. What she could not feel at that time was that her heart had dropped along with her coffee, and unfortunately, she didn't grab it in time.
Agate's heartbreak read like this:

We have to break up.

It was stupid, Alexander's name in her phone. She'd spontaneously decided to change his name after they had binge watched Parks and Recreation and she fell in love with it.
'It'd be perfect!" she'd joked, nudging Alexander's shoulder. 'You could play a teenager who loves pranking Leslie, and eventually hooks up with that gloomy intern!'
Alexander had smiled and nudged her back. 'I don't wanna hook up with her. Do I have to?'
Afterwards they had quieted down and watched it again, occasionally stopping to laugh at each other.
At first, she tried to deny it. But try as she might, she couldn't willingly close her eyes to the proof of their break up. It had seemed so unrealistic, so unbelievable, that at first she was expecting Alexander to show up at her house with his grin and tell her it was all a prank. He loved pranks. But her hope was dashed to pieces when she got another text, still from him.

So Agate did the only thing she could think of. She went to her house, greeted her parents, smiled at them, and went up to her room. Then she began to cry, little silent teardrops, because she was not a big fan of showing emotions. She sat in her bed and rubbed her eyes.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid," She murmured. Agate did not know exactly who she was calling stupid, but maybe it was Alexander, and maybe it was her.
Stupid Alexander for breaking up with her, just when she'd almost thought it would work out.
