"They left." I tilt my head up to look at her.
"They left?! You let them leave? I thought you were my wing girl!" She sighs and sits down on the petty couch. "Did you talk to any of them?" She asks while pouting like a puppy. "Yes, I have a meeting with the main director a week from now. In the meantime, I need to design outfits for everyone." I mess with my hair and groan. "Ugh, this is going to be a long week; I can already feel it." Maleoria peaks her head up and smiles. "If you need an assistant, you know where to find me." I laugh and smile at her. "Oh really now, how come you wanna help now? I mean, you didn't help me that one time I had 13 orders due the next week. Why do you want to help now?" With a cheeky smile, Maleoria looks away "Oh no reason, but I told you, I also had a meeting that week. I was super busy. Plus, I was still in college at that point."
"Right, right." I sigh and look at my phone. The clock reads 6:39, "Oh my, it's getting late. Did you see the lobby? Was there anyone else in there?" I turn to Maleoria and start to walk towards the door. "I only saw Lily, but you know her. She always finishes her products late." She laughs, and I open the door. Looking around, I make it to the lobby. Emptiness. "Looks like everyone is finished for the day. I'm gonna go search the place before I pack up." I walk towards the back of the shop, and I hear the door ring. It was probably Mail leaving, so I kept checking, looking through each Private room, meeting room, and Employee room. Nothing special. As I clear out 'Private room 2', I whisper, "Oh, I forgot this," walking over to the letter. My cold hands collided with soft paper. Stuffing the letter into my bag, I walk out of the room. I make sure I double-check everything before I leave.
Clear the rooms, check.
Make sure everything is clean, check.
Count the cash register, check.
Clear the rooms another time, check.
Lock up the back doors, check.
Lock up the front door and check.
I walk towards the car with my bag and keys in hand. "Hey, thank god you're out. It's so cold." I turn to her and smile, "Come on, I'll give you a ride home." I unlock my car and get into the driver's seat. Quickly turning the vehicle on and putting the heat on, I look over at Maleoria, sitting down, and laugh. "What? Is there something wrong with my hair?" She pulls down the sun visor and flips open the mirror. "It's nothing, let's go." I put my seatbelt on, put the car into first gear, and pulled out of the spot.
The drive was nothing special, just filled with singing and small talk.
I slowly pull up to a beautiful house filled with waterways and gold detailing. I roll into the driveway and park the car. Walking out, I go to the front door and open the door with my keys. Maleoria walks into the house. "Alright, well, I better get home." I smile as she waves goodbye.
I hop back into my car and let my hair down. Looking for a song, I get a notification saying, "So? dinner on Wednesday? Does that sound good?". The text was from a guy I met on a dating website. I haven't been in the dating scene for a while due to my ex being an abusive asshole. But this guy seemed funny and polite. I opened the chat and texted, "Sound like a date :)." Scrolling back to my music app, I clicked shuffle, and a song called "Adam's Song" by Blink-182 played.
As I pull out of the driveway, I sing along with the song.
"I never thought I'd die alone
I laughed the loudest, who'd have known?
I trace the cord back to the wall
No wonder it was never plugged in at all
I took my time, I hurried up
