"Everybody wake up!"
Before his brain even had any time to process what had happened, Andy had freaked out, he didn't know where he was. A moment ago it had been dark, within two seconds the room was full of light in the hallway had been illuminated as well.
Then suddenly he remembered where he was. he was at Krause. It finally hit him. He had just slept through the night in a building of about sixty strangers, who for all he knew could be serial killers.
" Samantha, are you ok?" Ask Hannah. Deep inside he really wanted to snap at her, tell her that that was not his name. But he figured he'd save everyone the trouble.
Andy remember the girl from last night, who he ate dinner with. a smile slowly crept across his face.
Maybe this isn't so bad after all.
"Shit!" He tripped over a pair of bedroom slippers. Obviously, these girls were never taught how to clean up after themselves.
"Samantha?"
Hope was standing in her doorway, waiting for her to come out. And he couldn't help but laugh to himself. He hasn't seen pajamas like that since he was five. He thought to himself, I think I'm going to like this girl.
" What are we having for breakfast?" He hoped it wasn't eggs. He didn't eat eggs.
"What we usually have" she said unenthusiastically.
"I'm guessing its something gross " and he said, laughing even though he knew it wouldn't be funny later when he was hungry.
They had to clean their rooms before going to breakfast. But Andy didn't have to clean today because he just got there.
They went to the cafeteria. It smelled like rotten eggs. Well they weren't rotten, but they we're not really eggs either. They were the kind that you pour out of a milk carton and mix up.
The only thing that had that he could consume was milk. But he was lactose intolerant. He would regret it later. So he decided to wait until lunch. Whenever that would be. He hoped it was soon.
They had to get in a line to go back to their rooms and finish cleaning. Andy sat in the day room instead.
Why are these girls so bossy? Who put them in charge?
Little did he know that krause had it's own way of doing things. They had kids as leaders in every team. The teams were named after colors. Andy was on gold team. The teams we're separate in different parts of the building.
There was a level system. The two highest levels, Master and Achieve, got to be leaders and go on outings. Andy wasn't the most well behaved kid. Name one teenager who was perfect. But all of these kids had been through a lot.
Throughout the next week Andy and hope were getting really close. One day, there was an announcement. All the kids in the building were going to get moved to new teams. Andy hoped him and Hope would be on the same team.
"Hope" Ms. Ashley motioned for hope to come talk to her. Andy went to his room for shower time. The water was cold again. The same thoughts kept running through his head:
I wonder if she likes me too. And why did Ms. Ashley want to talk to her?
When he was done with his shower, he got dressed and walked out to see Hope unpacking her stuff in his room.
"I'm staying in your room for the night".
