I knew I wasn't supposed to be here and that getting caught either meant death or a very pissed off Satoru. My instructions from him had been very clear. I wasn't supposed to ever follow him during situations like this. He had told me again and again till it was drilled into my head but knowing what he was going up against made me worry and when I worried, there would be no stopping me from making sure he was alright.
I normally didn't brag about this fact but I was a skilled sorcerer. My cursed technique was precise and I had some hold even on a personal domain. With how I could manipulate my cursed energy as well, it left no question as to my strength and how I could handle myself in a fight. It was Satoru however who had been the one to ban me from certain scuffles that he didn't trust me to walk away from.
I tried not to find it insulting. He cared about me and this was his way of showing it. My way of showing I cared though involved me sneaking around the station, searching for signs of fighting in order to locate Satoru to make sure he was alright. Even the strongest had his limits and I was determined to always be there to help carry the weight of the world with him, whether he wanted me to or not.
The sound of screaming and loud crashing coming from the end of the hallway told me exactly where I could find Satoru as I picked up my pace to try to reach him as fast as possible. When I got to the corner, I peeked around the wall to find a slaughter that filled my chest instantly with sorrow.
Corpses littered the ground, humans who had clearly gotten in the crossfire. Too many people were just standing around as if nothing was happening while so many were being devoured and mutilated. My eyes scanned the damage, taking count of many transfigured humans that were roaming the small area. Many of them dragged behind the remains of people they had already killed while they continued to feed.
In the center of it all though, my attention was held prisoner as his white hair was a stark contrast to the bloody crimson surrounding him. It took everything in me not to dart across the massacre to get to him. I had to analyze the situation at least to take full advantage of my hidden presence.
After a quick look of the area and pinpointing all the enemies, I decided that getting rid of the transfigured humans would be my best chance at helping to give Satoru time to focus on his main threats. It was time to make my entrance.
Turning around the corner, I walked out into the chaos, slipping my knives into my hands before I bent low and sprinted towards the closest transfigured human, not giving it a moment to respond as the blade slid with ease deep across its skin, the beast letting out a choked cry before falling useless. I wanted to move swiftly to avoid detection from both my enemies and from Satoru who would only become distracted if he saw me here.
I cut down as many transfigured humans as I could, staying low and quick the whole time. I didn't focus on whatever Satoru was doing with his own main threats, only working on lessening the load one by one until I had made significant progress.
"Y/n, are you serious right now?" a voice hissed in my ear out of the blue as I flinched and spun around to find Satoru standing there, blood smeared against his cheek as he panted and glared at me. In his hand was the head of one of the monster's. I couldn't understand how he had gotten over here so quickly or how he had gotten himself covered in so much blood.
"I wanted to help. You can't do this alone this time Satoru," I started to protest before he dropped the head from his hand and grabbed my wrist to look me over. His bright blue eyes were narrowed and piercing, a clear sign he wasn't in a good mood.
"I don't need your help. I need you safe and far away from here. Far away from any of the veils," he hissed between his clenched teeth. A large thud from across the station echoed around the area as I tensed up and took a step closer to Satoru. He didn't even bother looking behind him as he shuffled us back, crouching low enough to partially hide behind a small group of unsuspecting humans.
"Please just leave. I swear, just do this and I'll be happy. This is all I need from you so listen to me for once in your goddamn life," he snapped quietly, narrowing his eyes in anger. He was stressed. I was looking at the Satoru Gojo stressed and trying to catch his breath. That scared me more than anything.
I leaned forward to pull him into a hug, both of us on our knees as I pressed my face against his shoulder and trembled slightly. The odds were more terrifying to admit now than ever before. I knew I would only get in his way now if I stayed any longer. I didn't want to be his downfall in any way.
"I'll go...but I hope you know it's going to kill a part of me to leave you like this..." I whisper in his ear before I try to wipe the blood from his cheek while kissing his forehead lightly. I really didn't want to go. Not when he was like this. He didn't have to be alone for this...but it was his best shot without another person in his way. To help him this time I'd have to leave.
"I'll come back home to you after this. I'll heal that part of you you're leaving behind when I see you again y/n, I promise," he said softly with a whisper, leaning to kiss my lips passionately before he gently pushed me away and ran off to face his biggest threats. I was left stunned for only a brief moment of heartache before I too turned away to leave him behind, my heart yearning to join him but knowing we'd both accomplish more by splitting up. It wouldn't be forever though. I kept telling myself that as I left him behind. I'd see him again. I'd get him back.
