Gwen woke up to the sound of her ringing alarm. She opened her eyes and was greeted with the unfamiliarity of her and her father's basement. Moving was always unpleasant, but at least she got a room, even if it was a dark, dank basement. She didn't wanna get up, but it was her first day at a new school and a new town, so she didn't want to be late. It took her a moment, but she rolled over on her bed and hit the 'stop' button at the bottom of her phone screen. She sighed and sat up in her bed, rubbing her eyes. "Uhhhgggg, this is gonna suck.." She got up from her bed and walked over to her vanity mirror. Her long, straight black hair was a mess, not to mention the dark circles under her brown eyes. She was also super pale, almost ghostly. She sneered at the mirror, then looked to the side, grabbing her brush.
Once she had thoroughly brushed her hair, Gwen set down her brush and walked over to her closet, opening the door and grabbing an over-sized black hoodie with the Nirvana Logo on it, blue jeans, and a pair of black boots. "Quite the color pallet." Came a voice from her closet. "Shut up." She sighed. "Why the attitude? Aren't you excited to make friends?" As it spoke, a white, luminous silhouette of a boy, around Gwen's age, about 14 or 15 showed up. He was deathly pale and had short white hair. His eyes were pitch black with a white dot resembling a pupil in the center. "No, the people here are.. weird.." She shrugged. "I dunno, ok?" She took the clothes and put them on in front of her vanity.
"God, I look dead.." She mumbled. The boy peered from outside of the closet, rolling his eyes. "You think *that's* bad? I AM dead." Gwen chuckled softly, raising an eyebrow. "Oh, is that so? You didn't tell me that when I asked, and NOW you choose to tell me? Sounds like you, Cayleb." Cayleb left the closet, then walked into the mirror. Like, actually IN the mirror. "Whatever, Gwen." Gwen sighed and picked up her bookbag, swinging it over her back and putting it on. Then, she walked over to her bedside table and unplugged her phone, putting it in her pocket.
"Why do you need that? It's not like you'll be getting numbers, you NEET." He snickered, still looking at her from inside of the mirror. "You're one to talk. You don't even have a phone, let alone friends!" Gwen barked back. "Defensive much. And besides, being friends with a mortal is so much more fun than other dead people." He reached through the mirror and pulled himself out. "So, Gwen, are you taking me with you?" He smiled. "Do you really wanna go?" She tilted her head, looking up at his floating figure. "Sure, i've got nothing better to do anyway."
Gwen nodded, then looked up at the clock that was hung on her wall. "It's already 6. We should go upstairs. Do you know if my dad is home?" Cayleb shrugged. "I'll go check." He fazed through the ceiling, looking upstairs for Gwen's father. He came back after a moment. "No, he's still at work." She sighed, leaning against the wall. "Figured as much. Whatever, I'll be fine without him." cayleb nodded. "Right! Let's go."
Gwen walked upstairs, leaving her lousy excuse for a room, aka the basement. Cayleb followed behind, closing the door after them. He then flew past her, knocking her to the floor jokingly. Gwen caught herself and laughed softly. "WOOOOOOOWWWWW, you're SOOO funny." He chuckled and ignored her, walking over to the front door. Gwen sighed and pulled her diary from her purse, which she'd grabbed from the living room closet. She opened the book and sucked Cayleb into it, tucking it back into her purse. "Ok.. let's go.."
