The halls are always noisy and kids were darting in and out of their rooms. A stranger could just slightly glance and think this place was heaven for a child, but they are so wrong.
It was a normal day at the orphanage, the typical bullying from the other kids and the cleaning requests from Nanny. I finally got time to myself, so I quickly crawled under my bed and pulled out a worn out Hello Kitty suitcase. I pushed up on the clips and the case flew open. It was empty, besides my stuffed animal, Stella. I got this on my 8th birthday. I was surprised I even got anything. Nanny told me she found it. She was really beat up, which made me sad, but I'll never get rid of her. I remember one time, I left her in my room, I came back and she was gone. I later found her in the nasty toilet that Nanny told me to clean. Since that day, I promised Stella I'd never leave her alone.
I sat on my bed and pulled a small, pink comb from my pocket. I gently started combing the dirt from Stella's fur.
I was startled when Stella was snatched from my hands. I look up and see the twins: Luther and Luka or what everyone calls them "Spitter and Biter". They were both 10, but don't let the age foul you, they're vicious. Luther was standing before me holding Stella by the neck. I hated the way they held her. I stood up and held my hand out.
"Give her back, Spitter." I groaned already knowing the answer.
"No!"
"Please let's not do this today, just give her back."
"Make me!"
"You asked for it..." I quickly tackled Luther to the ground and began tugging on Stella. "Give her back you no good piece of-,"
Luka's sharp teeth dug into my neck. I almost felt paralyzed. I brought my arm back and elbowed Luka right in the gut. He fell to the floor with a thud and he started to sob.
"Nanny!" He shouted in between sobs.
At this point I was strangling Luther, his face was turning pink and he was scratching at my arms. A small smirk spread across my face, was I physcho?
"Emily! What in gods name are you doing?!"
I looked up to see Nanny's terrified face. I slowly got off Luther and shakily stood up.
I looked down at the boys that were both struggling to breathe."I-I.." I was shocked myself. I don't think I've ever harmed someone. I've never even stood up for myself. I leaned down to help Luther up and he scooted away, scared.
"Emily, go to my office. I need to take them to the nurse. Don't touch anything or anyone." Nanny instructed me.
"I-I'm so sorry..." I managed to say.
"Go, now Emily!" She said, helping the twins to their feet.
I let out a deep sigh, picked up Stella and walked into Nanny's office. It was a decent size, a desk, a few filing cabinets, and a small love seat against the right wall. I sat awkwardly on the love seat, resting Stella in my lap and petting her for comfort. I still couldn't get over what I just did. I've never hurt ANYONE on purpose. This wasn't me, something was wrong with me... This Emily was bad, the complete opposite of the REAL Emily. This Emily needed to leave, but how could I get rid of it. It's like evil overcame me and I just changed into a evil person.
Nanny slowly walked into the room and stood before me, with her arms crossed over her chest.
"Do you have anything to say for yourself?" It almost hurt me to see her disappointed in me, I don't even like her.
I looked up at her, lost for words.
"I-I... That wasn't me..""Oh, then I suppose it was Casper the unfriendly ghost?"
I looked down into my lap and shook my head. "No ma'am..."
She sighed and sat down at her desk.
"Your new parents with be here to pick you up."
"I beg your pardon..."
Nanny looked up at me with a sly grin, as if happy I was leaving.
"You've been adopted, sweetheart."~
