This section covers how to balance and stand on a snowboard.Stance - the specific position of our bodies from toes to head. We are always in a stance when we are on our feet! To snowboard you will become aware of how you are standing with your body and how to move your body to cause a response from your snowboard.
Activity Time
Stand up in your normal standing posture.(1) bend your knees and ankles about 20%
(2) straighten your back
(3) hands at sides
(4) Head straight and eyes upThis is a our stance we use when riding a snowboard. Congrats you have learned your first snowboard skill! The neutral stance! With bent knees and ankles we are ready to turn, stop, jump, and definitely shred. With a straight back we are balanced over the board, so we can stay on our feet more easily. With head up and eye's ahead we can see where we are going and monitor our surroundings. Having arms at our sides also helps with balance.
When do you do the stance? All the time! Before you start snowboarding practice the stance when you are standing in line, brushing your teeth, waiting for a bus or an Uber. Try getting LOW- bend your knees and ankles more to lower your body. What do you notice in this lowered stance? What happens to your back? Is it still straight? No bending over!
Where is else have you used a stance? Sports- baseball, softball, football, volleyball, basketball, bowling. Dance- ballet, breakdancing, hip-hop, square. Really any whole body activity uses a stance.Whenever we start, ride, and stop and do tricks we use the stance.
Activity II
