It was a quiet day on the Sunny, everyone was relaxing and having fun. Everyone but Sanji. He was in the hot kitchen working on two cups of tea. He was slower than usual. He was getting slower by the day. He leant against the bench, breathing heavily. He took his jacket off and placed his hand on his lower chest, feeling the ribs against his tight skin. He was pale and skinny. He hadn't been eating much. Only the tiniest bit of food every couple days. He moved towards one of the drawers and pulled it open. He reached in, pulling out a small container and opened it. He turned it upside down, causing a small pill to land in his frail, shaky hand. He grabbed a glass of water, placed the pill on his tongue and swallowed it with the water, immediately making him feel better, lighter even. He stood up straight, a small amount of color returning to his face. He picked up the tray of cups and the tea pot, carrying them outside. He slowly began to make his way up the stairs to the main deck where Nami and Robin lay in the sun. He took one step, two, three....... his shoe got caught on something and he fell over backwards, right into Zoro whom was passing by.
"Oi! Cook! What the hell are you doing?!" Sanji shivered at his words and jumped straight back to his feet. He used all his might to turn to shout something back but as he did he just fell again. Zoro caught him, cradling him in his arms and stared down at the cook with great concern in his eyes. He watched as Sanji slowly fell unconscious. Zoro was snapped back into reality by Nami shouting, "Hey Sanji! I thought you were making tea?" Zoro gritted his teeth, angered by the fact that the sound of the breaking china didn't even alert anyone.
"Chopper!" Zoro screamed, his voice ringing out around the ship. Choppers head appeared from behind his office door. When he saw Zoro sprinting towards him with Sanji's limp body in his arms he began to freak out, "Doctor! Doctor! We need a doctor!!! Oh wait.... I am a doctor." He lead Zoro into the office and told him to lay Sanji down on the medical table. Chopper pulled off Sanji's jacket and shirt, revealing his pale, skinny and weak body. Zoro put his hand over his mouth, backing into the door and slid down to a sitting position where Sanji was still visible to him. He placed his hands on either side of his head and buried his face into his knees. He was remembering. Remembering his own mother in the death bed. Remembering her weakened face. Remembering her soft smile. Remembering her weak, dead body. He felt himself begin to cry. Breathing became difficult. Chopper ran to his side, trying to calm Zoro down. Zoro began to rock back and forth, the images of his father laying dead, a spear stabbed through his heart and his mother lying dead under the clear white blanket. Everything went black and he fell on his side on the floor, tears staining the clear floor.
Chopper yelled for Luffy whom ran in with a huge smile on his face which dropped to a worried frown as soon as he saw his crewmates unconscious, one on the floor, the other on the bed. He helped chopper lift Zoro onto the other bed, his face frozen in the same shocked state.
Zoro slowly opened his eyes. He turned his head to the side to see Sanji's skinny body lying on the bed beside his own. He noticed Sanji's hand hanging of the side of his bed and hesitated, thinking. I slowly moved my own hand out from under the covers and placed it over his, threading my warm, rough fingers through his soft, skinny ones and closed his eyes.
Sanji turned his head as he felt the warmth of Zoro's hand within his own. He saw Zoro tear stained, sleeping face and smiled faintly before once again falling asleep. As Chopper fussed over Sanji he tried to pry their hands apart but failed.
The next day Zoro sat up on his bed, having completely forgotten his panic attack the day previous. Sanji was no longer on the bed beside Zoro but instead in the kitchen, tailing away at lunch. Zoro walked inside and watched in silence as Sanji fumbled with the pots and pans, not making his presence apparent. Sanji grabbed a knife off the rack and attempted to cut some carrots but his hand slipped, leaving a small cut on his finger. He placed a little bandage over it and slumped against the counter top. He opened the same drawer as yesterday and pulled out the little container. Zoro's eyes grew wide and he quietly made his way out of the shadow in which he stood. "Cook!" He yelled as Sanji tipped the little pill into his hand. He quickly made his way to Sanji and pulled the pill from his hand. "Sanji! Don't!"
Sanji lifted his head to face Zoro whom was now standing over him. Zoro had placed his right hand on Sanji's lower back, his left holding the little white pill. "What is this, cook?" He demanded. Sanji opened his mouth but no sound came out, he was too weak to say a word. Zoro lifted him to carry him bridal style. Sanji struggled against him but Zoro was too strong against his weakened state. As Zoro carried Sanji towards the men's quarters he remembered his own mother, doing the same thing, starving herself, eating strange white pills. Zoro still doesn't know what those pills are but he understands that they were the life blood of his family's problems. He didn't want the same for the cook. He felt tears running down his face as he carefully placed Sanji in his hammock. It was a little too big for him. Zoro stood up straight, his plan set in mind. He walked straight back out of the room.
He made it to the kitchen door and pushed it open. He went through every little nook and cranny in that room, finding various containers of colored pills. He held them all in his arms and carried them to the side of the boat, dropping them all into the water. Usopp watched and acknowledged the drugs. He was shocked, thinking Zoro was using. He watched as Zoro walked back to the men's quarters and scuttled off to find Robin. He told her of what he saw and she sat up in shock. She crossed her arms and sprouted an eye on the roof of the men's quarters. She watched as she saw Zoro kneel at Sanji's side. Sanji lay shirtless in the hammock, his skinny, boney figure exposed. This was the first time Robin had ever seen Sanji so weak. She always admired the others on the crew but she understood. She now knew that it was Sanji whom needed help.
