I left the forsaken bench beside the old pond of opaque water, leaving zero trace of my being behind. Walking forth to the only thing that makes me aghast every time. I slip through the tangled turmoil of wires, protecting myself with only the clothes I had on my body. Turning through the mess of barbed wires that were supposed to be a fence of death, yet I make my way through it easily.

Some mornings I somehow do this, even in the deep dark night, this fence never torpors. I don't know how; it must have a time to recharge. Yet, it doesn't. I never mind, I never have. I walk for two to three miles along the mutilated town of my home, Reslauk.

I finally reach home, where only my father sits at the table, bashed once more. I wake him, as always and lead him to his room, he mumbles the entire way there.

"I thought you said we were going to cook outside?" I only reply with, No, I'm cooking inside today. Maybe tomorrow. Every time he asked.

I found it unnecessary when he tried to argue back, cause no matter how hard I try I could never win. I lead him up to his room and lay him down. Soon walking back downstairs and cleaning off the counter tops and the rusted table, cold as ice. I close the window and remove the cloud from the window seal. With a sigh I make hot tea over the fire and chop lamb Finn brought us days ago. Soon after I put the lamb over the fire and start mending the tea, before spilling peas in the small pot with the lamb, I hear the sweet sound of soft hops down the stairs.

"Your home?" The sweet tune of dear Christina voice, it makes me smile, it's always had.

"Yes, dear. Has father been taking care of you, while I'm gone?" I turn over to see five-year-old Chris standing with one of her hands wrapped around a stair bar.

"Yeah, he has." She took a quick pause, "Why do you leave? Every day."

I never told her where I go or when, I normally just leave, but I never minded, I turn over and look up to the roof or well my father's floor and look down.

"I'll talk with him, he'll take care of you, while I'm gone, but I'm here now. So, you're going to be okay. Just trust me soon, we'll be out of this mess." I smile, it was fake, but convincing enough for her.

She looked at the counter to the teacups, then behind me, "Corn! Did Finn get it for us?" Her sad questionable voice turned happy and excited, she always loved corn. I hated the fact I always told her Finn got it for me, I never liked being seemingly incapable of getting that stuff myself, but I never wanted her to worry that I was past the fence, so I always told her Finn got it for me.

"Yes, he dropped it off about a few minutes ago, he wanted me to dispatch that he said, 'Hi.' Just for you, dear." I smile to her, and she smiles back, before turning away and running back upstairs, yelling that she'll wake father. I giggle a bit, marking off a day on the old calendar. A day, only one more day. I turn the pot from the fire and set it on the counter, transferring the corn to the pot and letting that cook on the humid meat and peas. While I finish how father likes his tea, then warming the last two slices of bread.

"Father, Chris. Dinner!" I call out placing a single plate on the table before the doorbell rang twice. I look over to the door, then to my father of which has made his way to the bottom of the stairs with Chris.

"Do we have guests?" I ask my father, he nods in response.

"Yes, I invited over your friend, they wanted to join us for dinner, so I say go upstairs and change. You look raggedy." He stares me down and walks over to the door, I do as told, but has he seen himself drunk.

I'd do as he'd ask, i go upstairs to my room finding a new set to wear laid out on my bed. I'd undress myself and redress myself back into a normal wear of clean jeans and a white button-down shirt that father gave to me. I turn to see my door cracked open with little Chris waiting on me. I smile to her walking over and picking her up off the floor and taking her with me downstairs, on my shoulders.
