Elizabeth drove around the town looking for a house that was vacant, she needed to wash of the stench of death. She looked for the classic signs of a show home, no newspapers on the mat or pristine lawns that had been measured to an inch in height. After driving around for most of the morning she found a house that was familiar. Her childhood home stood empty awaiting a new family that would fill its walls with laughter instead of anger.
Nothing was remotely the same, she hadn't expected it to be but the change was so drastic it shocked her. The wall dividing the kitchen and living room had been taken down opening up the space. It had been gutted and rebuilt to create an entirely new building. Forgetting that it was no longer her house she walked through the halls, passing her hand over the expensive furniture. Her mother had prided herself on her antique furniture, which she had stolen from the blood suckers they had killed. There was no one to miss it and sometimes it sold for good money so her parents didn't have to work.
She washed herself as quickly as she could, ensuring she was clean while trying to listen to anyone that might enter the house. It didn't take long as she scrubbed of a layer of skin always wishing to rid herself of the full moon. When her skin was pink she dried herself with her old clothes and put in what she thought was her best. It was the top that had no holes in and jeans that she had stolen from an expensive shop. Her hair was still wet and she did her best to dry it off, ensuring she was still alone she brushed her hands through it with a warmed hand that acted as a drier. Magic was useful when she could use it, only she had never been allowed to. Hybrids were against nature, and since she couldn't hide being a werewolf she had been forced to push down her power.
"Where is this barbeque" Elizabeth asked as they walked down the familiar street
"My friend Jennas house" he smiled leading her to the house with the dark brown door. She had spent hours behind it wishing it was her home, she had been jealous of Elena. Her family was perfect full of smiles and affection while hers pushed weapons into her hands.
"Are you sure this is going to be alright" she asked nervously as he knocked the door, she was uncertain how much she could really handle
"Stop worrying so much" he nudged her slightly forcing an awkward smile from her
"Hi Elizabeth," Jenna smiled brightly, hugging her with breathe that smelt of alcohol "Its good to see you again"
"You too," she nodded, she didn't remember much about Jenna, she had been a fun teenager that appeared around Elena at times otherwise she hadn't made much of an impact
"Elena's in the kitchen she'll be so happy to see you" She said gently, her eyes sympathetic no doubt Mason had told her why she was in town. It wasn't a last minute invite, Mason felt pity for her and by extension so did every one else
"Great" she mumbled considering slipping out the front door before she could see anyone else, she had thought she could handle seeing her old friends again. She had been wrong, it was all to much stepping back through her old life full of ghosts. There were seven years unaccounted for, in which time they had grown out of barbies and dress up, she had no idea what to talk about.
"Leaving before the parties even started" a familiar voice sounded from behind her causing her heart to race. She felt blood rush through her ears scrambling the sound around her causing her to grip the edge of the sink for support "do I know you"
It took a few seconds for her to regain her composure, his face was different than she remembered from that night. His eyes were innocent and his smile playful as he attempted to figure out where he had seen her, it was as though he hadn't just snapped her grandmothers neck.
"I don't think so" she smiled tightly her hands clenched at her sides as she pushed down the anger wishing to attack him. If it didn't risk exposing her she would stake him on the spot "have you had any business in New Orleans lately, I just moved here after my grandmothers death"
