~Eli's Point of View~
I WOKE THE next morning to find that Emily was gone, but there was a note. My head pounded with a hangover but I picked it up and read it.
Eli,
I am sorry for not confronting you in person with this in fear of you going to the Alpha. It is time I explained some things. I have left the Clan because I do not want to become the Alpha's next wife. I also don't have the heart to kill anymore. My hands have been stained with blood far too many times. I know by the time you read this the Alpha will already have found out. Don't come after me. I do not want you to get hurt.
This is goodbye,
Emily.
"You should've told me. I would've helped you." I said to myself, putting the note away by stuffing it in a duffle bag. I then started packing a few things. My knife, some matches, a bedroll. I stuffed my duffle bag full, making sure to only take the things I needed. I didn't need any extra unwanted weight. I made sure to take the foldable tent. It would at least protect against some elements of the weather. Rather than face the Alpha, I decided to leave also. I finished packing and exited the tent silently, hoping to sneak out unnoticed. I had to go after her. I had to find her. Before anyone else did.
"Well, well." Said a cold voice behind me. That plan failed. I turned around to see the Alpha. He must have been waiting on me. "Off to find your little... friend? Seems she disappeared and stole a hefty amount of gold from me." The Alpha stepped closer to me. So close I could smell his foul breath as he spoke his next words. There was no way any human could have that much stench in their breath, could they? "You will hunt this little bitch down and end her life. Got it? And just to make sure you do just that, Mya will go with you."
"Should've paid us when you had the chance, Alpha. Now you'll never see that gold again." I almost said but stopped myself. I had a plan to lose Mya and find Emily by myself.
"You know," Alpha called out to me as I walked into the woods. "If you bring her back alive I can make a wonderful wife out of her. It is about time I ditched that old hag of mine and got a young maiden." From the sound of his voice, he had a smug grin stretched across his face. That disgusting pig.
Mya jogged until she was walking beside me. "So, what's the plan? Bring this idiot back to the Master or slit her throat where she stands?" She looked over at me, keeping a steady pace with my walk. "Your ex partner so your call."
"She will die. Alpha will never have her." I said coldly. A lie.
"Your call." Mya repeated with a shrug. "I am just out there to please the Master. Say, why did she leave?" I gave her no satisfaction of a response.
"Can you walk any slower?" Mya sneered. "You are wasting time." She flipped her black hair out of her face and then placed her hands on her hips.
"I have my reasons." I stopped and began to forage for food, picking berries off a nearby blackberry bush.
"Whatever." Mya rolled her eyes. "I think I will go on ahead. Take your time procrastinating, I've got a target to catch. As your new partner, I think you need to stop thinking about that bitch." Funny, Alpha never mentioned anything about a new partner. "You are showing emotion. Remember the Assassin's Code. One must never let emotion show, even when they are not in battle. One must never feel emotion, for it is the body's biggest weakness. Don't make me report you to the Master."
I sighed and brought out my knife and slammed her against a tree. "Big mistake bitch." I had about enough of her mouth. I slit her throat where she stood. Mya gasped as she fell to her knees, surprise flashing in her eyes as she desperately tried to keep the blood in.
It was no use. I had slit her throat wide open. "Sorry bitch, but I'm leaving the Clan as well. Alpha can try to find both me and Emily, but he will fail. After he fails, he will fall." Mya stopped moving, her blackened hand falling from her throat and her body slumping.
I took care to hide the Mya's body in the bushes. I continues on-wards, eating the berries I had picked.
