Rose Chiffon was born into a family that valued tidiness over anything else. The family motto was 'If you don't look neat, don't bother trying' Rose tried her hardest to keep to the motto as best she could but she longed for more. She longed for creating sparkly dresses, colourful skirts, statement hats. Anything but the drab, beige clothing she was forced to wear constantly. She would often be found in her room, sketching outfits and sewing test fabrics together to see if they clashed or not. "Rose! Rose darling!" her mother called from the bottom of the stairs. "Coming mother!" she called back, hiding her sketchbook under her mattress and the assorted fabrics under her pillow.

She loved her mother dearly but she feared that if she saw any of the bright colours she was using, her mother might die of shock - in the very literal sense. Once she was sure her secrets were concealed, she rushed downstairs and greeted her mother with a kiss on the cheek. "Yes mother, what is it?" Tricksy, Rose's mother, was a slim, white pony who always had her red mane tied into a low bun at the back of her head. She always wore clothing, not that she needed to, and she always made sure her children did too. "Rose dear, where is the dress I bought you the other day? You know we have brunch today with Floss and her children.

Floss was Tricksy's oldest friend and the pony who inspired Tricksy's tidiness rule. Floss' children, Spick and Span, were obnoxious, rude little colts. They were twins and as such did everything together. They loved playing pranks on everypony and Floss could not control them for the life of her so she relied on the strictness of Tricksy to calm them. Rose hated Spick and Span with a passion, she knew that they were only seven but the overwhelming urge to whack them was too strong for her sometimes. Rose always seemed to be the twins' primary target with their pranks so when faced with the possibility that she would have to endure it at brunch, Rose did the only logical thing.

She burnt the dress. Rose's magic was never predictable because she didn't get to use it often. As a result, when she did use her magic there was no telling what it would do. Rose hadn't had the intention of burning the dress, only to get rid of it. However, her magic didn't seem to like that plan and it burned the creme coloured dress until it was naught but a pile of ashes. "Umm, I don't know where it is Mother." Rose said hesitantly, hoping her mother wouldn't see through the lies. "Ugh darling, I guess you won't be able to go then. I'm ever so sorry dear." Tricksy hugged her daughter and then darted out the door, so as to not miss the taxi.

Finally alone, Rose got to work creating her best piece yet. It was a long, ballgown-type pink dress adorned with hot pink ruffles on the bottom and the hem, white rhinestones across the bodice and pink ribbon going around the top of the skirt. It was almost complete, except for one thing. The glitter. Rose wanted the dress to sparkle and shine, glow and glisten. She hoped it would be her ticket out of New Reingland and straight to Ponyville. Rose had sbeen pen pals with a pony named Rarity ,who owned a boutique in Ponyville, for around eight years. Rarity had inspired her to pursue fashion and helped her with designing and sewing tips letter by letter. Rose had always dreamed of moving to Ponyville and meeting the pony who started her on her journey. "Here goes the finishing touches" She said, her tongue resting on the side of her mouth in concentration. Voila. The dress was finally done.

Rose wrapped the dress up and after multiple attempts, got out the door and into a taxi so she could enter her dress into the Royal Equestrian Gown Competition, a competition created by Princess Cadence to design a gown for her next gala. The prize? A ticket straight to Canterlot to meet all four princesses. Rose couldn't be more excited. She submitted her dress and trotted off feeling extremely proud of herself.

SIX WEEKS LATER....

Ding Dong. Rose rushed to the door before her mother could. The winner would be announced that week by post. She opened the door and tore up the envelope straight from the mailpony's hooves. It read, "Congratulations to Miss Rose Chiffon for winning first place in this years Royal Equestrian Gown Competition. Well done to all nominees and to Rose, our winner." Beneath the cursive, pink writing was a taped train ticket for Thursday the next week, straight to Canterlot. Rose squealed so loud with excitement that the Kirin and Hippogriffs could both hear it. "MOTHER!" She yelled, too excited to act posh. "Rose darling what is it? What's that you're holding?" she said, grabbing the letter with her magic. "Rose this is..." Rose bit her lip, frightened as to what her mother would think. "AMAZING NEWS!" Her mother seems just as excited and they both jumped up[ and down with joy. "Finally, we can get out of this town and I don't have to wear monotone colours anymore. I don't have to wear outfits at all!" Rose was shocked, she had no clue that her mother despised the neatness just as much as she did.

In Canterlot, Rose couldn't contain her excitement. A new life, a new her. Cadance was so impressed by her dress making and designing skills that she offered Rose a place as her official Royal Seamstress and of course, Rose accepted. How could she not? Rose and her mother settled down in Ponyville and every event Cadance, Luna, Twilight or Celestia had Rose would make them a stunning gown. After a few months as in her new position, Rose realised she had feelings for a certain pony in the castle....
