"GET BACK HERE!"
The man's furious shout echoed through the bustling crowd as I darted through it, holding two stolen loaves of bread.
Too scared to look back, my eyes hinted with fear, I dodged through monsters in the busy street. The worn-out, dirtied hood hid my face as I heard the man's voice fading behind me.
I took a quick turn into a dark alley, and I paused to catch my breath, removing the hood from my head.
"That was so close..."
Looking down the loaves pf bread, a grin showed on my face. "Another win! Now I don't need to go hungry today!" she hummed happily, walking down the alley, not bothered from the slight pain she felt by walking barefoot.
I, Seiko Akiyama had been getting used to the life of living on the streets, even though I was 5 years old, having been abandoned by my stupid demon parents a few months ago.
I took a turn in the alleyway, "That monster was so slo-" I stopped talking when she noticed someone.
A bruised kid sat against the wall, their face hidden as they hugged their knees, wearing a ragged light yellow plain dress.
Looking concerned and curious, I approached them. They seemed around her age, and their white hair had some dirt on it. Offering one of the loaves, I asked, "Hey, do you want one?"
There was a moment of silence before they slowly lifted their head, looking up at me with tired eyes, their right eye yellow, while their hair covered the other.
They hesitated for a moment before accepting the bread, nodding as a thanks. Sitting beside them, I watched as they ate the loaf hungrily.
"My name is Seiko. What's yours?" I asked, but the child didn't answer, only focusing on the bread.
Feeling a bit awkward, I tried again, "Are you alone out here too?" This time, the child, still eating, nodded slowly, earning a bright smile from me. "Maybe we could be friends!" I suggested. The child stopped eating, looking at me with a cautious look.
"Please?"
The child shook their head, standing up and started walking away, holding the remaining piece of bread.
Surprised, I followed, catching up while trying to convince them, "Please? I'm good at getting food! I can even tell mushroom and plant stories!" Ignoring me, the child continued walking.
'I just don't want to be alone!' I thought, but I noticed they were about to collide with someone. I tried to warn them, but it was too late.
