Chapter 4

My eyes dart open to the sound of a phone ringing. I realize it's already morning as I roll over in bed to pick up my phone. My eyes still foggy, I press buttons on my phone, hoping I answered the call as I put it up to my ear.

"H- Hello?" I croak.

"Page? It's Brittany. Did I wake you?"

"Brittany? Uh, it's fine, I needed to get up anyway... But, uh, how'd you get my number?"

"I stole it from Bart's phone. Speaking of Bart, are you guys ok? You haven't talked in over a week."

"Uh, honestly, Brittany, I don't know. We had a.... Never mind.. I've tried to text him, but he won't respond."

"Yeah, every time I bring you up while we're filming, he gets all weird and changes the subject. Like he's trying to... Forget about you or something."

"Forget about me?"

Bart's trying to forget about me? All the while he's all I can think about.

Justin and I walk through Wal•Mart, my eyes scanning the isles. Justin grabs a bag of chips off the shelf and throws it in the cart.

"I'm gonna go look at the TVs." Justin announces.

"Ok.. I'll just be here." I respond.

Justin disappears into the crowd of people as I continue to scan for snacks. I glance behind me and see a face that seems sort of familiar... Bart.

"Bart?" I ask, smiling brightly.

"Uh, hey, Page." He says, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. We both look at the ground in silence and do a kind of shuffle with our feet.

"So, um, h- how have you been?" I ask.

"Uh, I've been ok I guess.. Ya know.. Filming and stuff.."

"Cool.."

"Yeah.."

Silence.

"Do you wanna do something sometime?" I ask out of the blue. Bart looks up at me, confusion spread across his face.

"You want to do something?"

"Yeah. I miss talking to you."

"Well, yeah, I'd love to.."

I smile awkwardly again. "Great."

"I'll call you later?"

"Yeah."

"Ok. It was nice seeing you again."

"You too, Bart. It really was."

I smile again before walking away, part of me feeling better already.
