(sorry yall there was some kind of weird glitch that changed the ending bit i fixed ittt)

"Earth to Y/nnn" Gayatri tapped her decorated fingers on my face, pulling me out of my head.

"Are you okay?" She asked, a concerned look on her face. "You've been in and out the whole day."

"Yeah, I'm fine." I waved my hand dismissively "Just had a weird night. What are we doing again?"

"A 120 calories and 48 calories from fat." Gwen read from the back of a candy bag. "What per cent is that?"

"U-uh 48 into 120?" Gayatri unsuringly answered.

"I'm only eating foods with less than 30 per cent calories from fat." Gwen said, "I can't weigh more than 1.15."

I squinted my eyes, doing the math in my head. "It's 40 percent."

The two girls looked at me with confused looks. "Well 48 over 120 equals x over 100 and then you cross-multiply and get the value of x."

After a short silence, Gwen shrugged, throwing the candy into her bag "Whatever. I'm getting a hamburger"

As Gwen left to get her food, Gayatri turned to me and asked, "So seeing any guys yet?"

"Well, there's this guy in my physics class..." I began, but she quickly interjected, "Who is it? Is it a senior?"

I shook my head, saying, "It's Miles," and Gayatri's eyes widened.

"No, no, no! You can't like Miles, that's Gwen's ex-boyfriend! She totally wants him back," she exclaimed.

I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion "Well, they aren't together anymore, so why can't I like him?" Gayatri leaned in and uttered, a stern expression on her face, "Because getting with each other's exes is breaking girl code. It's like - the number one rule of feminism."

I frowned, feeling conflicted. On one hand, I really liked Miles, but on the other, I didn't want to upset Gwen. But what Gwen didn't know couldn't hurt her, right? I mean I don't know if I actually like him. Maybe I feel just attracted.

"Don't worry, I'll never tell Gwen that you said that." She giggled in a hushed tone, seemingly happy to be keeping something from Gwen "It'll be our little secret."

I smiled, relieved that Gayatri wasn't going to spread the news. "Yeah, our little secret," I echoed.

Even if I wasn't allowed to like Miles, I was still allowed to talk to him and be friends with him, right? I was his friend, or at least I thought I was.

"So, class," Miss Boom, the science teacher, turned off the projector. "The group project is due on October 26th, 2 days before the Halloween party."

She informed, collecting groans from the class. I mean, who makes a project due 2 days before an event? People would be too busy trying to get their costumes together. "If you don't get it done, you aren't going to attend the party."

That shut the class up.

"Anyway, this may be done in groups of three. If you do not have a partner I will choose it for you. I'll give you a second to get grouped."

The whole class seemed to fit in like puzzle pieces, immediately choosing each other. Gwen or Gayatri weren't in my science class, so I couldn't pair with them. Before I could try and look for someone else Miss Boom spoke up.

"Okay, let's see who's left. L/N and Morales."

Suddenly I noticed Miles at the back of the class, head down with his hoodie over his head. "You two will be paired since you're the only two left. Class dismissed."

As the students piled out of the class, I walked over to the desk he sat in. Awkwardly stood in front of him as I waited for him to move. But he didn't respond, was he sleeping?

"Miles?" I called, and he jolted up, his eyes wandering for the source of the noise before meeting my gaze. I noticed dark circles under his eyes. Wonder what kept him up so late.

"The teacher said we should work together," Y/N said.

"Oh- Right." he straightened up, rubbing his tired eyes and taking down his hood. He felt embarrassed, he didn't expect this to be the next time he talked to Y/N. "Any ideas?"

"So I was thinking we should do our solar system. Because that's easy." She suggested, "But if you wanna do something harder we can."

"No solar systems fine."

"We can plan more on it tomorrow. Or, give me your number?." Miles stared at the phone Y/N held out. Her phone.

He was about to give her his number.

Miles took her phone, typing his digits on the number pad. He could feel star outlines on the back of her pink phone case. He took note of the star keychain that dangled off the side. She liked stars.

"Are you done?" She asked, Miles had finished 10 seconds ago. He didn't know exactly why he still had the phone in his hands. With hot cheeks, he handed it back.

"Well, talk to you later?" Y/N smiled, dimples forming around her mouth.

"Uhm, yeah. Talk to you later..."

Miles sat at his desk, tapping his pencil against his sketchbook. He was stumped. And he was never stumped whenever it came to art. Ideas seemed to flow so naturally to him, even if it was just drawing the empty water bottle in front of him, he always had an idea. But not today.

That was because his attention wasn't fully on his paper, it was on his phone. Every minute or two he would glance down at his phone, checking for any notifications. For once he'd turned off do not disturb mode.

God, what was happening to him? He didn't have a---

ping !

He picked up his phone, eager to see who texted him, sure enough, it was you.
