┈─ ˚ . SECOND MISHAP . ˚ ─┈
﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋

the second time he falls for kim mingyu happens to be the very cause of his injury.

the blonde wanted a change of scenery, in the mood for some fresh air rather than staying inside like a hobbit all day.

he happily made his way over to the bleachers where a game of basketball happened to take place.

sports were never his thing really, he preferred to read and dance. even if dancing did require physical activity, it didn't mean minghao was the best at other sports.

his junior high teacher stopped taking it as a surprise when he sat out in the bleachers. just like his high school teacher eventually left him alone.

the one thing he did like was probably field hockey, but even that grew tiresome over time.

one time his friend, junhui, had convinced him to go to their school game. he protested at first, but with the promise of getting hot pot afterward, minghao suddenly was in a rush to go.

and like a fool, he actually believed there would be hot pot afterward. ( junhui ended up ditching him after the second quarter, so minghao had to walk home, starving and cold. he swore to get back at him later for it. )

now, giving the players in front of him a spare glance he's come to a conclusion; yeah, he'd never understand the concept of sports.

minghao would much rather focus on his read for the week. a tale of two cities, a literary classic that he's been wanting to try but could never find the free time for it.

he doesn't know why he's suddenly interested in the french revolution, but hey, a classic is a classic.

maybe he can discuss it with seokmin, who happened to be a history nerd. minghao crinkles his nose at the thought, who willingly chooses to learn about history?

he'd been so caught up in the book that he didn't take notice of the flying basketball currently headed in his direction.

maybe if he had looked earlier, providing him with enough time for him to move out of the way, it would prevent the black eye that would form later on.

minghao wishes he never went outside that day.

"oh my god, are you okay?" a tall figure crouches in front of him as minghao covers his eye in pain. he could feel tears welling up, but would rather not cry in front of a stranger today.

so he does what any rational human being would do, he runs away.

"hey–wait a second!"

mingyu looks down at the book on the bleachers, calling after the fleeting male with poor attempts.

he grabs the book, ignoring the basketball and the shouts called out by other players as he chases after the blonde.

minghao desperately gasps for air as his panting worsens. running really wasn't his thing so why was he still doing this after ten minutes?!

maybe because the mad man behind him just won't take a hint!

"okay! okay! p–pause!" he manages to gasp out, making a T-sign with his hands, before placing his hands on his knees to try and catch his breath.

the figure slowly comes to a stop in front of him, and he could hears him sigh. "if you want to catch your breath, that's a poor way to do so."

"listen mr. know-it-all this is all your fault i'm like this in the first place," minghao looks up, though his vision is slightly blocked with the sun so he lifts his hand, "so why don't you go and take a hi–"

his eyes, or rather, eye widens in shock after he stands up to his full height, restoring his view on the male. just like that, regret dawns upon him as kim mingyu stands in front of him, basked in sweat and practically shining.

not to mention the tank top he happened to be wearing, leaving his biceps exposed and oh how minghao was so into– "arms."

ohno.

nononono.

shitshitshitshit.

"did i say that out loud?" minghao cringes at his statement, he just had to say that aloud too. thankfully, it doesn't seem like the taller caught his moment of weakness, so with a confused "what?" minghao makes something up on the spot.

"i said charms! charms, yes-er charms." he's gone into panic mode and minghao can only hope it's not that visible to the public eye. he's already had enough embarrassment for one day.

"i lost my charm bracelet while running.." saved it. he thinks as a sly grin makes it's way onto his face.

"oh, really? let me help you–"

"no! no that's okay." the blonde waves his hand, triggering his flight or fight response. perhaps he could do both in this situation, but then again, nothing he could do would ever top the trouble he's managed to get himself in.

"well, i should be going now. so, carry on with whatever it was you were doing before you chased me to death."

mingyu grabs his wrist before he could leave, pointing at his injured eye. "shouldn't you take care of that first?.."

with a gasp minghao's hand flies to cover the eye, his face turning red in a rush. he clears his throat in an attempt to make himself cool, "yeah, that's what i was going to do, obviously."

this doesn't seem to convince the taller as his brows crease up. "let me take you to the nurse. it was the basketball game i was playing after all."

"well..if–if you say so.." the blonde agrees, looking down at the hand that still has a hold on his wrist. mingyu must have taken notice of this because he pulls his hand away, leaving minghao's skin craving the warmth he brought him.

he almost reaches out to hold his hand instead, but for the sake of hospitality and the risk of him not looking like a total lunatic he chases that feeling away.

a fleeting moment is what he'll have to reminisce about from now on.

"are you absolutely sure you're okay?" mingyu asks what the chinese thinks is the fourth time since they left the nurse's office.

"trust me, i'm more than okay." he says sarcastically, placing the bag of ice onto his eyebrow to stop the swelling. an incoming black eye and swelling? how wonderful.

he notices mingyu slowly trailing behind him after he passes two buildings of the school, and out the entrance. "do you plan on following me all the way to my apartment?"

mingyu looks up from his state, snapping out of his daydream as minghao raises an eyebrow, "you took me to the nurse. you don't have to do anything else, i'll be fine from here." he gives him the best smile he could muster without blowing his cover.

it seems to be just enough to convince the latter to go on his own. "again, i'm really sorry about everything. make sure you rest!" mingyu jogs back onto campus and the blonde feels his legs give out, managing to lean against their school's brick wall in time.

"oh my god i thought my heart would burst." he blurts out, feeling the way his heart beats in his chest. "this is the last time i ever go outside again–" minghao replays the day in his head, his mind stopping at a freeze frame picture of mingyu in a tank top.

with a gulp his lips part, "i'm doomed."
