Content warnings: car crash, reckless driving

The warm yellow lights of streetlamps wash over you as you drive late at night, through neighborhoods and down long roads that lead to the city. It's empty tonight, barely a single car passes by you, and you haven't had anyone on your side of the street since you started driving. You've been out here for hours, just...driving, clearing your head after a long day. Nothing out of normal for the most part.

Until you start seeing the lights shut off behind you.

You were just there, there's no reason they should be going off so soon, right? It seems like they're faster as you watch, grip tightening on your steering wheel as you feel your heart quicken in your chest. Your eyes widen as one right behind you shatters, you can hear it explode, hear the glass hit the ground, and you speed up, foot pressing down on the gas pedal as you refocus on the road ahead of you, hearing more break as you try to get away from whatever this is, whatever is happening here.

You end up on some barely populated road lined with trees, the lights fewer and far between here. You think you're safe for a moment, looking back and not seeing anything, until you see it, farther behind you now but still there, a light going out, then another, then another, moving slowly, inevitably, towards you. You speed up even more, pedal nearly flat to the floor as you keep your eyes on what's behind you, missing the curve as you careen off the road into a tree, slamming into it with enough force to throw you through the window and onto the ground. The last thing you see as the world fades is something leaping down from the nearest light as it goes out.
