You Don't See The Issues, I Got 'Em

We manage to get onto the truck just fine and curl up on sofa that's plastic wrapped.

I curled up next to Jisoo and Lisa and Rosie slept on our backs.

"How far does this truck take us?" I ask her.

"I don't know but hopefully far enough. Other wise we'll be spending all 7 days crossing Indiana or not even reach our benchmark in time."

"How long have we been on this truck?"

She turns to the grandfather clock secured to the side. "Probably a few hours."

Right on cue, my stomach growls and she sighs. "We should've brought food before getting on. Rosie and Lisa will wake up asking for food now too."

I smile. "Especially Rosie."

She laughs lightly. "Yes. Especially Rosie."

"What are we doing once we get off the truck?"

"I don't know. Probably find another truck or spend our days walking."

"What about now? What do you want to do?"

"I don't know."

I smile. "So you do want to talk!"

She turns her head to me. "Fine. Whatever."

"Tell me about your friends and life. Whatever you're comfortable with. I'll tell you about mine."

She nods. "Okay. Let's see.... I have a brother and a sister. I'm the youngest out of all three of us. I live with my parents while my siblings are married and living with their families. My parents said I can only move out if I prove that I can take care of myself."

I snicker. "You can't?"

"Well....I can't cook, clean or do anything household-wise to take care of myself at home. But I can work. I bring money to the table not someone's dinner."

That makes me laugh. "I can't do any of those either."

She looks at me in confusion. "I thought you worked as a maid."

Shit.

I chuckle. "I was joking! Of course I was joking!"

She rolls her eyes playfully and continues, "I paid back my parents for college over the years. I starts practicing law only 3 years before transforming into a dog. I wanted to pass the bar exam quickly and just move on with my life. Obviously that didn't work out well enough."

I give her a comforting pat with my paw then I ask, "Did you ever think of modeling?"

She looks at me in surprise at the change of topic. "I'm sorry?"

I nod. "Yeah. Modeling. You look gorgeous."

She tilts her head. "As a dog?"

I push her. "No dummy! As a human! You look good as a human!"

She laughs. "Yes, Jennie, Yes I always knew I was beautiful. And no I never thought I was model worthy beautiful."

"Why?" I ask.

She looks at me and her eyes turn a bit sad. "Beauty is only in the eyes of the beholder Jennie. None of my family thought I was....pretty enough. My family are filled with gorgeous people but I guess I just....I never fit their standard of beauty. My face was always too soft. Too round. I never had the right body. These comments didn't come from my parents or siblings, by the way. They've always been supportive of me. It was from relatives. The fact that I was gay didn't help my case either. I probably looked even uglier to them."
