Ding!
Sunghoon stumbled out of his bed to reach for his phone that made the alert tone. His eyes comically widen when he sees what's displayed as a notification on the screen. He's been waiting for this for a while.
His favorite web novel was updated!
The author was in need of a break, so they hadn't posted a chapter for several months. During this time, Sunghoon suffered from false hope of new chapters being released when he heard notification sounds. He was okay with them taking a break, because he believed that they needed all that rest from writing the best web novel he ever read, and that's saying something, considering the unhealthy amounts of web novels he read.
Sunghoon was a fanatic for web novels. Sometimes the ones he read were basically the same story in a different font, but he ate it up every time. His taste in stories were simple. And although it's quite basic, he especially favors stories where transmigration is involved. It's an immensely popular plot, but it's popular for a reason. The idea of traveling to a new world in a body not of your own sounds thrilling. However, he thinks most of the main characters always act too nonchalant in his opinion. If that was him, he'd become an emotional mess. He'd freak out, cry— whether out of sadness or joy—, and be excited at the same time.
He loved to read. He relished reading a book from start to end without a break. He thought it was fun and he enjoyed imagining it. But if you asked Sunghoon why he loved it on a deeper level, he'd answer it was his only escape from the world.
Life serves everyone differently. Time moves fast for some. And others painstakingly slow.
Sunghoon's life was playing in slow motion before he discovered his love for reading web novels.
Although it didn't fix everything, it helped a little. And a little was a lot for him. It was enough to keep him going.
Love Story at the Academy finally released a new chapter. Excited was an understatement.
Sunghoon cherished this book wholeheartedly as if it was the only thing he had in this world.
He tapped on the notification, leading him to the app.
Reading the chapter's title name, his heart sinks a bit.
Final Chapter.
He gripped his phone tighter. Reading the previous chapters, he knew the ending was near, but he didn't think it would be so soon. A mix of anticipation and melancholy surges within him, reflecting his inner conflict.
Sunghoon began to read.
Before he knew it, he finished reading the last chapter of his favorite web novel, marking the end of his wonderful journey with it.
Too bad the ending sucked. Sunghoon sighed.
It was rushed and utterly disappointing. No disrespect to the author though. To put it briefly, the villain was killed by the male lead, and then the male lead and the main character, the lead couple, had a happily ever after.
Do not misunderstand—Sunghoon was glad that the antagonist got what he deserved. He always hated him. He was utter evil. He bullied the main character, ranging from calling her rude names to attempting to murder her. It wasn't even bullying at that point. It was torment.
Sunghoon shuddered.
If the villain was a real person, Sunghoon just knew he would be hideous, unsightly, repulsive, and all those words that meant ugly. He was described as having black hair, dark brown eyes, and alabaster skin with a few moles. No offense, but he sounds super plain.
