"Banks," I called out to let the young officer know I was ready for him.

"Yes Chief," He replied as he entered.

I felt awful knowing the job I was about to assign him would be a fail. I couldn't possibly put a more competent officer on the case, because that could mean my husband's demise.

"I'm assigning the "RedFire" case to you and your partner. Can I trust you to tell her for me?"

"Yes Chief, we won't let you down," he responded.

I hope you do, I thought to myself as I started working on paperwork that had been abandoned just fifteen minutes before.

The RedFire case was the one case I had given up on, the case seemed simple enough, gather intel on the RedFire mafia. But it had been more complicated than that as it was through that case that I had met my husband, Zac Vioni, the don of the RedFire mafia.

Now my job as a chief of police made it so I could do my best to keep him safe, and out of prison. Which meant only assigning the case to officers I was sure would not succeed.

I knew my wife had likely reassigned my case already, as it was technically a high priority one. I also knew she was going to reassign it to an officer that was about as useful as a paper wheight.

Suddenly my desk phone buzzed, letting me know that my 2:00 was here. I buzzed back letting my secretary Scarlett know to send them to my office.

"Mr Zioni, thank you for agreeing to meet with me," Came a chipper female voice.

"Of course, Ms Anders. I must say, I am still confused as to why you reached out. We tend to, run in different crowds."

"But of course, I have a proposition of sorts," she must have seen my face as she added,"I understand you are happily married, don't you worry about that. My proposition is simply we work together, I own multiple "legitimate" businesses, that I'm offering as fronts for you to run your business out of,"

"Why?"

"The better question is why not," she responded.

"No. You can see yourself out now,"

I sigh and begin to wonder what exactly Eliana is doing, thinking, saying at this very moment. I love her, and I can't wait till we are both home tonight, it's my turn to make dinner.
