Today is Thursday, my second sociology lecture of the week. I wake up with an extra spring in my step. I couldn't wait to see the nameless stranger again today. I talked about him for an hour with Ally and decided that I needed to talk to him today.
The plan is to sit in the same spot as I did on Tuesday and hope he looks for me in the same spot. I get dressed in the cutest casual outfit I could throw together. Loose white jeans, a dark green t-shirt from Banff that I tucked up to crop, and Converse. It is still warm in Toronto yet since it was the beginning of September. I put a pair of sunglasses on my head to pull back my long brown hair, small gold hoop earings, and a few rings for accessories.
I leave my apartment with my backpack, and water bottle, and check myself in the mirror to make sure I look good. My light makeup gave me a slight glow which made me smile at myself.
Driving to school felt much longer than it usually did, only because I had so much anticipation and excitement for the day. The radio plays softly in the background while I hum along to some Maroon 5 song that hasn't left the radio since 2009.
I pull into a parking spot quickly, pull down the visor to check myself in the mirror, and hop out of my car with a huge smile.
As I grab my backpack, I see him walking down the sidewalk. He wears a white t-shirt with a small design, blue jeans, and sunglasses over his eyes. As I stare at him, he turns his head in my direction. My first instinct was to hide behind the backseat door that I had open to grab my backpack from the backseat.
After he passes, I stand up, grab my stuff and whisper, "No more of that Kaia. Just talk to him. He's just another person."
I speed walk to the building, hoping to catch up with him along the way.
I see him 50 feet in front of me while I try to pass people in front of me to catch up. When I got close, I passed him slowly, focusing on something else while I feel his eyes on me. I continue my walk to the building in front of him, and when I entered the building, he followed a few feet behind.
As I slip into the seat I sat in a few days prior, he joins me in the same row, this time sitting one seat closer than before. I feel his eyes on me for a moment, so I turn my head and he quickly looks away. I see a small smirk on his face as he looks down at his closed laptop.
"I'm Kaia," I say proudly, knowing Ally would be so proud of me.
"Hi, Kaia. I'm Harry," He states with a smile.
I smile back and turn my head to the front of the room, waiting for our professor to start.
"You're British," I blurt out because I'm nervous.
He laughs and says, "Yes. And you are not British."
I nod and keep my head turned to the front of the room.
"I just moved here," He keeps saying since I'm sure he can tell I don't know what to do, "I'm from around Manchester."
I turn and look at him while he speaks. His pink lips move delicately. "I've lived around here my whole life. Is this your first time in Canada?"
"No, I-" he gets cut off by our professor speaking at the front of the classroom. How rude.
We spend the rest of the class in silence, stealing small glances at each other every now and then. I find it so difficult to focus on anything when he's sitting so close to me.
Our eyes meet while we half pay attention to the lesson. His smirk makes me blush. I desperately wait for this class to be over so our conversation can continue.
An excruciatingly long hour later, I am snapped out of my daydream with a loud shout, "Alright guys, see you next Tuesday!" Our professor says with the slam of a textbook. I gather up my items, quickly throwing them in my bag so I don't fall behind Harry's fast pace.
