Jack
Maggie was struggling to keep her eyes open.
Nathan had just left.
"Jack."
I took her hand in mine.
"Jack."
Maggie brought her hand to my lips.
I kissed her hand.
"You have to let me go."
I stared in Maggie's eyes.
"I know."
"Jack."
I stared at her.
I leaned closer to Maggie.
"What about a puppy?"
I chuckled.
I grinned at her.
Maggie chuckled.
I shook my head.
"That's a dirty rotten trick."
We kissed.
I sighed.
"One more thing."
I stared at Maggie.
"Could we dance?"
I stared at her longer.
I teared up.
I nodded my head.
I unhooked her IV.
Maggie took her Oxygen nose piece out of her nose.
She stared up at me.
"Okay. Just gonna..."
I easily lifted Maggie up into my arms.
"I got you."
She had her arms wrapped around my neck.
I danced around with Maggie in my arms.
I silently cried.
She stroked my face.
Dr. Mathers
"I've done some research, Dr. Mathers."
"Mm-hmm."
"They've been putting pig hearts that are a match in difficult human heart places."
"Uh-huh."
"95% survival rate until they find a match donor heart."
"Get Maggie and Jack on the next plane to Boston."
"On it."
She hurried off.
The nurse knew we were running on borrowed time with Maggie.
Jack
The beeper rapidly went off.
I grabbed it off the table.
They had a heart for Maggie.
I left with her.
I boarded the plane to Boston with Maggie.
She had kept her Oxygen nose piece in her nose.
