Hey Stephen, why are people always leaving
I think you and I should stay the same

After getting home safely, all of us automatically headed into our rooms to get some rest worth a couple of hours. But when we all woke up, Lockwood was already in the kitchen with a letter from DEPRAC that informed us about Mr. Fairfax "dying of natural causes". Personally, I was just grateful that I was not behind bars. We also got paid just as much as we signed up for which meant the company was saved as well. What I regretted back at Combe Carey Hall though, was the fact that I had left the rapier I received from Lockwood under the ruins, probably forever lost.

"Combe Carey Hall should be putting our name on the front page of The Times," Lockwood complained while he took a seat among us at the table. "And now it's like it never even happened."

"Your name, you mean," George remarked, slightly irritated by his neverending comments.

By now, I'd come to the realisation that Lockwood was hungry for fame. He wanted to be known. To be remembered. A part of me knew that this was a sign for me to leave and never look back. I didn't want a life in the reflector lights. I wanted to hide in the shadows where I could remain concealed from my family. But then why did I stay? Why was I still here, sleeping in the attic with Lucy?

Not even I knew that.

I was balancing on a tightrope and I was very much aware of that. One small mistake and Lockwood would discover the stack of lies I had been throwing around. It would all fall. However, all of those worries had been brushed aside into a deep corner in my brain.

"Eve, you all right?"

Lockwood's voice broke me out of my thoughts but I instantly put on a smile. "Of course."
