Why should you understand me?

What do I do?

The sun began to hide behind the mountains, and Frostine was still in the forest with the wolf on her tail.

Should she go back home?

As the shadows grew longer and the temperature dropped, Frostine's heart raced with uncertainty. The forest had become unfamiliar and eerie, making her question whether going back home was the safest option.

"Do you think I should go home?" She asked as the wolf howled in the distance, its mournful cry echoing through the trees. "No?" The wolf licked her cheek and wagged its tail. If she goes home, she'll argue with her mother. So, after pondering, she made a choice.

"Yeah, she won't mind if I stay in the forest for a night or two." The wolf beamed with happiness, howling and brushing its fur against her legs. She sighed and picked her up. Suddenly, a branch cracked behind them.

The same figure from last night.

Frostine covered the wolf's mouth and hid in a bush. It was that girl with golden eyes and blue wings. Dwyn. She landed on the ground, her wings not touching it to dirty themselves, and behind her came Enya, with the same smirk on her face.

"Did you erase her memories?" Dwyn spoke in a whisper, but Frostine heard it. Erase her memories? But she remembers them. Everything.

Enya smirked, her eyes checking Dwyn out. "Of course, sugar, what made you think otherwise? That human isn't so smart. She's a silly girl, and the faces she made looked so dumb." Frostine's heart raced as she listened to their conversation. Confusion filled her mind—if they had erased her memories, how did she still remember everything?

"Humans can't know about Fae, Enya. It's too dangerous. Especially when she lives at the border where the spirit and human worlds mingle." Dwyn spoke with seriousness in her voice. "Eira warned us about it." Frostine felt her head hurt in confusion.

"Well, at least she isn't a vampire like that girl who was brought into the village not so long ago." Enya crossed her arms and rolled her eyes.

"Enya!" Dwyn pushed her away, seriousness printed on her face. "That's the Princess!" Enya's jaw dropped in disbelief. "That is the vampire princess?" She asked dumbfoundedly, her mouth agape.

"She's Queen Vanya's daughter. That's what Eira said." Dwyn put a finger to her lips as a sign for her to be quiet. Enya, still in shock, lowered her voice and whispered, "How did the vampire princess end up in our village?" Dwyn glanced around cautiously before responding, "Eira didn't give us all the details, but she mentioned something about the queen being assassinated and her being held captive in the dungeons."

Frostine felt the wolf in her lap lick her neck up and down. She grimaced and forced the wolf's head into her stomach.

"But she doesn't look evil." Enya pursed her lips as her gaze softened, looking at Dwyn. Frostine felt her eyes sting, but why? She only felt like this when she saw her mother cry for the first time in her life.

But why does her chest feel as if someone pressed hard on it?

The wolf growled so lowly and put her pawn on Frostine's shaking hand. Her blue eyes snapped to the yellowish-orange hue the wolf's eyes had. It was pleading with her to look away.

"No one is born evil, Enya. Not even you, who is meant for chaos." Dwyn smiled as she approached her. The taller woman smirked and wrapped her arms around Dwyn, her black wings encircling her.

Frostine couldn't bear to look at them, her eyes clenching shut. She held her breath.

What has gotten into her?
