Chapter 1; The Aftermath

"SANS!"

Katsuki broke free from Izuku and Present Mic's grasp and rocketed himself to where he saw Sans fall through the same portal that took him. The air was still. There was no noise from the street below, if there was Katsuki couldn't hear it. His ears were ringing with Sans's last words to him.

Katsuki - "You better come back to me alive dammit! Do you hear me?!"

Sans - "Don't worry Ground Zero. I...I promise. I love you Katsuki."

Katsuki fell to his knees on the rooftop. His necks hurt, but his eyes started burning.

"No...no, no no no NO NO! Don't you dare leave me! You promised me you'd come back! You can't...you can't just break your promise..."

Katsuki's shoulders shook as he tried to keep himself under control.

Aizawa - "Bakugo?"

Katsuki - "He didn't come back. Even though he promised he would."

Shota could hear the way his voice quavered and it broke his espresso filled heart. He pulled Katsuki into his arms and hugged him tight. Katsuki gripped the back of his teacher's shirt and sobbed his heart out in Shota's shoulder.

Aizawa - "Let it out."

Katsuki's wails were muffled in his teacher's shoulder.

Eijirou watched his brother for the last two and a half years fall through the misty portal that took his best friend not even two days prior. He couldn't feel anything. His mind was full of television static as he watched his best friend blast himself to the same roof where Sans was taken. He was aware the sun was rising. He was aware of his moms moving him into his mom's cruiser and then entering their house, but he couldn't process what just happened. His mind wouldn't let him.

Mayo sat by the doorway, facing the door. That's right...Sans said she and him were going to visit the Pussy Cats and Kota that morning. Mayo looked at Eijirou and it finally clicked for him.

Eijirou - "Sorry Mayo. Sans won't be coming home this morning. O-or tomorrow morning...Or-or even...HE'S NOT COMING BACK! HE'S GONE AND HE'S NOT COMING BACK!"

He was spun around and trapped in the embrace of both his moms. Ichika was sobbing just as hard as him and Natsumi had tears running down her face. She was barely keeping it together herself. They had lost a son and a brother.

Mayo's eyes were glassy and she dropped her leash. She understood what happened. She always was a smart girl.

Grillby, Undyne, Alphys, Mettaton, Asriel, Chara, and Nova changed back to their more humanoid forms. Grillby was struggling to keep his emotions in check. Nova was silent with her eyes wide and unseeing. Chara and Asriel were comforting each other. Mettaton was in shock and was confused by the tears welling in his eyes. Undyne was crying and on her knees, punching the pavement. Alphys was crying, but thinking.

??? - "It's about time I was brought what I was owed. Set it on the table and prepare the electrodes."

Sans's unconscious bones were placed on a plain, white, metal table. His clothes were cut from his body, leaving his bones bare. His soul was on clear display, just behind his ribcage. His soul was carefully removed from his ribcage with a pair of specially designed gloves and placed inside a special glass case and sealed inside. EEG, EKG, and ECG electrodes were sterilized.

The EKG electrode stickers were carefully placed on his soul. The ECG stickers were placed along his arms, ribs, legs, spine, and vertebrae. The EEG stickers were placed all over his skull. Sans was then submerged in a vertical vat of a slurry of ice, water, and hydrogen peroxide.

"Boss, we also brought you these things. That freak summoned them from thin air -"

??? - "Good, good. Leave them on the table."

Sans's discarded bone attacks we unceremoniously dumped on the table Sans was previously on.

??? - "It's just about time for dinner. You, go bring Eri some food. I've got work to do."

A man wearing a feathery boa and a beak-like mask watched Sans's unconscious bones float, already thinking of countless experiments.
