There has always been the fear of the unknown

The fear of not only the darkness, but the things that dwell within its shadows aswell.

Countless tales of nightmarish entities that prey on the young, sick, and old had always been a part of mankind's history. And with that fear came strength, a determination to conquer the horrors that wished to devour them whole. Of course when there was no one left to challenge them, humanity became complacent, and complacency turned to apathy. They've become arrogant at that fact they thought themselves as the rulers of earth, made worse when they harnessed the power of the atom.

Yet even with their weapons of mass destruction, mankind was not prepared for the events that would occur in 1954.

It all began in 1940 where experimental nuclear weapon testing was being done near the island of Odo. When Japan tested a new experimental bomb that utilized nuclear fission near an seemingly uninhabited island, they had unintentionally unleashed a horror on to the world one of likes the world had never seen before.

In the fourth of November 1954, ships began to mysteriously dissappear with the only evidence being the superheated scraps of steel and traces of unholy amounts of nuclear radiation. In the following months small settlements were destroyed by an unknown force during a particularly violent storm. When investigators sent by the Japanese government questioned the villagers that survived the destruction, they were told that a monster spoken of in their culture had came and raised their village to the ground.

"It was horrible, it came from the depths of the sea, a black mountain who cries were like that of thunder. With it brought a curse, a curse of death. We do not know what we had done to earn it's ire but one thing is for certain, where ever it goes, I pray for whomever is in Gojira's path." - The village elder of Okami

Of course, this was brushed off as delusions caused by the trauma of losing their home by an unseen force. That was until when they were investigating the island, the group discovered the small beach on the other side of the island with the trail of enormous footprints that had the same traces of radiation from the remains of the ships. When they presented their findings, the Japanese government decided to hide this from the public in order to not cause a mass panic. They could not ask America for help due to tensions after the second world war so they will take care of this matter on their own. The trail of destruction followed a pattern with the unknown entity leaving behind lethal amounts of radiation in it's wake.

In the 4th of November in the east coast of Japan, this coastal town would experience it's final sunset.

What emerged from Tokyo Bay that fateful sunset was nothing less of a nightmare, a grotesque crown of jagged bone pierced the surface of the water as the rest of it's massive body followed suite. Of what could be best described as a twisted monstrosity of a dinosaur, the massive beast towered over the seaside town's tallest buildings on two column like limbs like a gargantuan parody of a theropod dinosaur. It's skin scorched and cracked as if merged with dead coral. Shards of bone belonging to dead sea life were fused into it's tail like a demented club. The monster's face was a horror of its own as the half of it's face scorched to bone with two baleful orbs set into its skull. A maw lined with nightmarish jagged fangs that was set into a permanent glasgow grin opened to release the eardrum shattering roar that tore from it's tumor ridden throat.

Swamping the streets below in a tidal wave of boiling sea water as the beast waded on to land. It's massive serpentine tail slicing through buildings like a enormous broadsword as the beast tore into anything that it could get it's mangled claws on. Blood spilled forth from where the skin split when it moved to continue it's cruel march into town. People who were unfortunate enough to be near the irradiated monstrosity, caught aflame as they were reduced to unrecognizable blackened husks. When the Japan's military forces arrived to defend the town from the monster, the irradiated colossus proved to be an almost unstoppable juggernaut as it proceeded to shrug off all of the artillery they could throw at it. It was only after a stray missile stuck the beast in between the plates of its crown, the military finally manged to gain a reaction from the monster; pain.
