Burning Love

I awoke to my alarm, every weekday morning at 7:30am. The same blue analog clock sitting on my bedside table every morning for the past two years.

I groaned as I pushed the snooze button and pulled myself out of bed, ready to start the day. I quickly showered and put my long, dark waves into a ponytail. "Another day at work" I sighed. I picked up my phone to check the time, 7:50, "fuck, I'm going to be late again". I rushed out my door and headed to my doom.

It was raining, which didn't help the fact that I had to run to work today, and considering the amount of exercise I do, I'm surprised I got as far as I did. I got to the park, two blocks from my work and I needed to take a break. I pulled out my phone from my jean pocket, 8:10. I was most definitely getting a scolding from my boss for being this late. As I put my phone back into my pocket, a black shadow catches the corner of my eye, i look around but to no avail. I sigh, knowing I have two more blocks to go before I have to work for six grueling hours.

Before I go to take off into power mode my phone goes off. I look at the screen, it's my Dad. My family and I have never all that close considering I left home at 15 and was now 22. We talk every so often and have small chit chat but my family and I have never seen eye to eye. I answered the phone "hello, dad? I was just on my way to work and-" I began, my father quickly cut me off.

"Milly", his words were quiet and hoarse like he had been crying or drinking whiskey. "it's your mother, you need to come over now, she's dead".

I stay silent for what seemed to be a lifetime before my father interrupted my mind. "Milly, are you there?". I quickly clear my throat and take a deep breath. "yeah, Dad, I'm on my way".
