Melione reached down with her hand and started to chant. A long sword made purely of light formed in her hand. She wrapped her fingers around the hilt and charged toward the aurasnake. She screamed making the aurasnake look right at her.
She needed it distracted so it wouldn't go to Grym. If she messed up, it would eat him, swallowing him whole. She sliced through the air in front of the aurasnake, moving it back.
It roared at her as it sliced towards her with its massive sharp claws. Her mistbeast moved quickly out of the way. They were missed by just an inch. The grip on the sword tightened as she stood in between Grym's body and the aurasnake.
The blue glow in the aurasnakes eyes glowed brighter. She made it mad. The drool coming down its fangs looked as if they got thicker, a blue hue coming off of the drool. She needed to make sure that neither she nor her mistbeast was going to get hit with its drool.
"Grym," she hissed towards him. There was no response. That made her nervous. She took a chance and looked back at him. She couldn't tell if he was breathing or not, but she didn't have time to figure that out. She needed to kill this fucking aurasnake.
The aurasnake roared at her again and lunged. She flung herself off of her mistbeast and landed to the right. Her mistbeast was smart as it flung itself over to the left, out of range from the aurasnakes grasp. Melione still held onto the sword as she took the chance to lung at its left arm.
She sliced through the arm, but the aurasnake flinched before she was able to chop it clean off. Its scream was high-pitched as it reared back from her. Melione covered her ears and dropped to the ground. Its scream felt as if it penetrated her brain. If she didn't cover her ears, she was afraid that they would start bleeding.
Melione looked up at the monster and was satisfied to see its left arm hanging onto the rest of its body by a thread. Clear blood spilled out of the nearly severed arm. She smirked at the pain that she caused.
"Melione?" she heard a raspy voice call out from her left.
Her head snapped over to see Grym rubbing the back of his head. He was trying to get up but was struggling.
Melione rushed over to him. She grabbed his arm and tried to stand him up. "Grym," she groaned as she struggled to get him to his feet. "You've got to help me here." She looked over to where she had hurt the aurasnake, but it was gone.
Nothing was left in its place. Not even the blood that had spilled out of its arm remained on the ground. Her heart felt like it had dropped to her stomach.
Fuck, she cursed.
"Where did that monster go?" Grym asked her. She knew he was trying not to, but she could hear the trembling in his voice. She didn't blame him. She was trembling right now.
"Grym," she started. She didn't try to hide the fear in her voice. "We've got to go. Now." She turned her head frantically trying to find his horse. "Where's your horse?"
"Whatever that fucking this was ate it," Grym growled. He was now up on his feet but leaned back against the tree behind him. His strength was going to take a while to get back to him.
They didn't have a while.
They didn't have any time.
Melione signaled for her mistbeast. It knew the urgency that was going through her and didn't wait for the light orb. It stood next to them ready for them to get on. "That fucking thing was an aurasnake," she explained to him as she took his arm again. She pushed him towards her mistbeast. "We've got to go now. Get on." She helped him get on before she got on in front of him.
