Christmas was nearly over, but Elvis Cridlington was still in the spirit of it all. Wearing a blue and green Christmas sweater as he started to take down the decorations.
He smiled. It had been a wonderful Christmas indeed! With his only half-burnt Christmas Cridlington Cake and the whole town coming over for the party, he couldn't help but reminisce about it all.
"Hey, Elvis."
The young Cridlington turned around to see his fellow firefighter-and secret crush-Penny Morris. He couldn't help but blush at the sight of her.
"Uh, did you like the party?" he asked, "Ellie and Sam and I sure worked hard on it."
"I thought it was great," Penny replied, grinning from ear to ear, "I hope you enjoyed it too!"
"Yeah, I thought it was swell," Elvis said, beads of sweat starting to form on his forehead, "and I-I'm glad you liked it, Penny."
Penny blushed, "you're welcome."
There was an awkward silence for a moment. Elvis kept clenching and unclenching his fists, clearly nervous around Penny.
Suddenly Penny looked up above their heads. Then she giggled.
Elvis flushed, "what's wrong? Is my zipper down or something???"
"No," she whispered back at him, "we're just standing under the mistletoe."
Elvis blushed bright red, all the way to his ears. "Uh," he said, "I-I mean, I've always admired your courage and strength, Penny. And I-I've always thought you were pretty-"
Penny put a finger to his lips, "shh. Just kiss me already, Elvis Cridlington."
All Elvis could do was nod.
They stood in silence, looking at each other. Then, after what felt like an eternity, the two of them leaned in and shared a tender kiss. It only lasted for about 3 seconds, but it was the greatest 3 seconds of their lives.
When their lips finally parted, all Elvis could whisper was, "I-I love you."
Penny grinned, "well, I have to admit, you are rather attractive."
Elvis pulled Penny closer and kissed her cheek, "Penny, how awfully I do love you. Don't you love me back?"
"Of course," Penny smiled, kissing his nose, "I love you too, Elvis."
"Great," Elvis whispered, "I never thought I'd hear that."
And with that, they kissed again, all underneath the mistletoe.
