Y/N'S POV
Standing up, I slowly stepped towards the table, crowded by all the people cheering. Reaching the table, I was greeted by a familiar bushy haired girl sitting beside a ginger haired bou.
"y/n! Over here!" she shouted, patting an empty space beside him. Smiling to myself, I quickly sat beside him as the cheering died down.
"Congrats on getting gryffindor by the way" a red haired boy sitting across from me whispered "Best house there is" continued an identical looking boy next to him.
"Oh right, I'm Fred-" the latter exclaimed before being cut off.
"I'm George! Nice to meet you" The other continued.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Y/n Whythe" replying to them, giggling slightly.
"Those are my brothers" Ron whispered to you. No wonder they had the same bright red hair.
"Harry Potter" Professor McGonagall read out. The room seemed to quiet down as soon as she read the name. He was quite popular after all, being the boy who lived. Everyone had their eyes on the boy who slowly stepped towards the hat.
He sat down on the stool and the hat began moving on it's own. Voices could be heard, whispering on thier guesses of which house the Harry Potter would be sorted into. A minute passed by, the sorting didn't usually take this long.
"GRYFFINDOR!" the sorting hat declared, breaking my thoughts. People on our table started standing up to clap their hands loudly as if cheering on their 'victory' of getting Harry in their house.
Harry ran towards Ron, giddy that he was in the same house as one of the only friends he made. Percy, the prefect in our house, congratulated Harry, followed by Fred and George.
The sorting continued and eventually all the first years had sat down on each of their house's table. McGonagall went back to her respective seat beside Dumbledore and clunked her glass.
"Let the feast begin!" Dumbledore said, with his voice somehow echoing throughout the spacious yet loud hall. Food appeared on the table as a watched in awe on the amount of it there is. Everyone started to dig into the food, most of the first years taking more than they can eat.
"What do you think?" the girl beside me asked, sparking up a conversation.
"Honestly, if we get meals like this everyday, I might even stay here on the holidays" I replied.
Hermoine giggled in response, nodding her head in agreement.
"Though, I might like it more if they had served rice, I don't really like mashed potatoes" she added.
"Hell yea, I'm going to miss my brother's cooking" I replied back, dramatically blowing my nose on the napkin provided. She laughed as the two of us continued to eat peacefully before being interrupted. In the midst of eating, a head popped up from the plate with the fried chickens.
"Hello! How are you?" The transluscent figure asked, facing to Ron who had a look of disgust on his face. Before any of us could respond, other figures started appearing through the walls and floors, making a commotion between the students.
"Hello Sir Nicholas, how was your summer?" I heard Percy, greeting the ghost.
"Dismal! My request to join the headless hunt was denied!" the ghost, named Nicholas apparently, replied with an exaggerated tone. I giggled to myself, he was quite funny.
"Wait, I know you! You're Nearly Headless Nick!" Ron said, turning around to meet the ghost.
"Well, I prefer Sir Nicholas if you don't mind" the ghost said before being cut by Hermoine.
"'Nearly Headless?' How can you be nearly headless?" She asked not knowing what to make of the name. I was curious too but thought it was kind of direspectful to ask the dead what happened to them.
"Like this!" Sir Nicholas said, while taking his head into his hand and bending his neck, causing it to cut through the middle revealing his spinal bone. Though, as soon as he let go, it went back in place as if it was a trap door that could open and close. I winced at the sight, not really wanting to eat anymore.
As soon as it started, dinner was soon over and the Prefects were instructed to lead the first years to each common room. We followed right behind Percy as he went through the long corridors of the castle. It fascinated me on how it looked so old yet still steady as if it was just built. I mean, maybe it was the magic but still!
Percy kept going up until we reached a tall tower, filled with staircases. I was taken aback by the amount, but was later dumbfounded when I saw them move on their own, changing the trajectory of the stairs. Percy began going up one of the stairs.
"Keep an eye on the stair case please, they like to change" He said loud enough for everyone to hear. Everyone followed him as to not be left behind by the moving staircases. As we went up the stairs, I couldn't help but be fascinated by the paintings decorating the tall tower. Even mroe so when they moved and actually talked to us.
Eventually, we reached another corridor, which led us up to our common room. The 'door' had a painting of a lady, dressed in a long but puffy pink ball gown.
"Passoword?" I heard the lady croak out.
"Caput Draconis" Percy said. The painting opened, revealing an tunnel towards the common room. The room itself was large compared to my living room back home.
The walls were a warmer shade of maroon, accompanied by golden floral accents on it. Hung on it were multiple paintings that were surprisingly not moving. The furniture had the same theme, all either had a muted yet bright ruby colour accompanied by a lining of a bright yellow. A fireplace was located right beside the entrance, surrounded by sofas to sit by it for when it was cold. All of this was lighted by a simple iron chandelier and lamps on multiple tables.
"Welcome to the Gryffindor common room" Percy said, welcoming all the first years that were here for the first time.
"Boys' Dormitory is upstairs and down to your left. Girls' the same on your right. All of your belongings will have already been brought up to your rooms" he continued. I quickly went up the stairs, Hermoine tailing right behind me towards the dorms. To my delight, I was in the same room as Hermoine, as well as Parvati Patil and Lavender Brown.
I decided to unpack the day after, only unpacking my toothbrush and sleepwear. Unsurprisingly, the other's fell asleep as soon as they hit their pillow. It had been a long day. As soon as I was done setting up my robes for tomorrow, I too was lulled asleep by the sound of the whistling wind that hit our window.
