I looked at her glazing green eyes which were shooting a piercing glare at me as if she was sure I am of no trust. Clare's voice snapped me out of my fear.
"We're sent by the organization as your new maids Ma'am. Please let us know our duties." She said, politeness tuning in her voice.
She hummed in acceptance and said, "There's a board hanging to the wall showing your duties. Two of your associates are on leave, you can do their jobs. Now go get to work or else don't be surprised to find yourself fired on your first day."Rude. Totally rude, what else could you expect?
"Thank you, I assure you won't have a chance to point out our mistakes." I said keeping a smile plastered on my face.Soon after, we got to our work and it was fun, to make soap bubbles while washing dishes, singing melodies while cleaning and we had a rock band while cooking. Our colleagues also enjoyed our company and the day came to a pretty good end.
As planned before, Charles came in the kitchen at midnight and so I did. He told about his day which was less energetic as was mine. The woman had again, threatened him to keep his mouth shut and live here for only a week and leave immediately. Then she had instructed him to do some gardening and household stuff. She had even made him her driver for the day or maybe she'll keep him like that for the entire week until he's here. He was also told collect and drop some things that needed to be bought or sold. He was given the guest room to keep his belongings and for the nights as before. Nothing more happened which was worth suspecting except for the phone calls she received.
He further said, " I don't think it was one of her friends as it seemed to be a male voice." I furrowed my brows and started joining the threads again.
"She's working! She's working for someone!" I whispered with enthusiasm."Or with; but that's sensible. But it takes this murder to certain unexpected depths." said Charles, expressing his worry.
"It does. We need to find that out too."
"Only a week, Lu..."he tries to argue.
"Pretty enough to achieve what we wanted." I said with a smirk.
"Next?"
"You know." I said smiling, leaving the kitchen.
After that, I came to the servants quarters. They were good. I mean really really good, showing how rich this witch was. I searched for my room till I reached the end and found it. Clare was already in her pajamas and all ready to go to bed. My entrance made her grin a little.
"More work, no sleep. But I'm gonna sleep, a bit too tired. Good night, Lu." She said reflecting how much exhausted she was and then closed her eyes, pulling the cover over her shoulders.
"Good night, sleep light!" I said sarcastically. Honestly, I was feeling a bit tired too.
I quickly changed into my night wear and set an alarm for 4 am. Early than Clare expected but it's good to be cautious.
I tried to help myself sleep but yes this insomnia consumes me when I'm on work or under pressure. Wait, I'm under pressure? No certainly not. I tried to fidget with my sheet until I found a good book below the corner table. I went off to sleep reading it.
I was intrigued by this one. But still the next day awaits new clues and challenges. With Clare and Charles by my side I'll overcome those too and by thinking this, I slept peacefully.
