Reese's POV
Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we manage to enjoy multiple occasions of red hot sex with our little brother's fiancée with two e's while she vacations in a romantic island setting. Colby. Yes, it occurred to me that my brother was due to marry someone named Colby, but I never once suspected the one I interacted with could be her. Granted Colby isn't as widely a used name as Mary, Sara or Jennifer, but what were the odds Liam and I had slept with the same one?
Apparently smaller than I deemed.
I wasn't able to privately talk with Colby since shortly after she dressed her bridesmaids stopped by to scoop her up to attend to pre-wedding business. Meanwhile, I tried not to reveal how nervous I was during the day spent with Liam. He took me several places and we chatted while I tried my best not to think about the secret I had selected to conceal the moment I knew his Colby was my Colby.
But we--she and I didn't really do anything wrong, right? I mean they had a deal stating that they were free to sleep with whomever they pleased and it just so happened Colby winded up in Hawaii finding and getting naked with his sister. No one ever set a rule that each other's family members were off limits and even if they had we were clueless.
However, now we were officially hiding what happened and that alone could piss Liam off if he were to learn weeks or months later. Shit. I was this close to accepting another job in Manila, but decided to be family oriented by attending my only sibling's wedding and now...now I had to pretend I hadn't constantly been thinking about the woman who left a giant hole in my life when a taxicab carried her away, causing me to weep until my eyes were red and puffy. Had to pretend I wasn't crazy about the woman who would swap vows with my brother the Saturday after next.
Damn, I wish I had taken some acting classes.
A knock on my guest bedroom door pulling me away from such thoughts, I ask them to come in, assuming it will be Liam since last I was aware Colby wasn't home yet. Liam and I had dinner together since her bridesmaids were treating her to a meal, which I was relieved and disappointed about. I wanted to see her yet at the same time didn't because I don't trust myself not to say or do something foolish.
I barely stifle a groan the moment I spot a blond head. She peeks around the door as though she suspects I could be naked. Finding me stretched out on the bed (fully clothed) she regards me with an unreadable look while asking if we can talk. I nod, watching as Colby enters, quietly shutting the door behind her. I imagine she doesn't want Liam to know she's in my room.
"Where's Liam?"
"My sister just dropped me off. He's already sleeping." She glances toward the bed probably contemplating if she should sit there...sit so close to me. Aiming to help her out, I point toward the desk chair, Colby gratefully looking toward it. Chair obtained and carried to the side of the bed, she sits facing me. Nervously playing with her fingers, Colby's eyes meet mine. "Hey."
I wave. "Wha' sup, girl?"
I think she almost laughs. Biting down on her lower lip she keeps it within. "I need to ask you a question."
"Go ahead."
"Did you know I was here? Did you know I was the Colby marrying Liam?" She stares deeply into my eyes like she's on a quest for the truth.
"No and no."
One eyebrow rises followed by its twin. "That's it? That's all you have to say?"
"You asked me a couple questions and I answered them truthfully. I've been aware since we were teenagers that Liam was involved with a Colby. However, I didn't know until reuniting with you in the shower that his Colby was the same woman who became my lover in Hawaii. I swear to you on my mother's life--a woman I love very dearly--I didn't have a clue."
