"Let you stay here?" I am so puzzled right now, "I don't even know you! How are you even going to supply me with food?"

She doesn't seem to look surprised at all, "I can build a green house and a garden. Listen, my name is August and I really need a place to stay. My place got destroyed in the flood. Can you please consider it?"

She is really attractive up close. Also, a green house? She is smart as well. I really need the food, but letting her stay is really risky. Eh, I'll die anyway. Might as well take the risk. "Well, you'll have to sleep on the couch.. I don't have an extra bedroom.."

"That's fine! You won't regret letting me stay. I'll do whatever you need me to," August says looking really surprised and happy. She said it with such enthusiasm and seriousness as well.

I almost have to stifle a laugh because her mood changed so quick, "I would hope I wouldn't regret letting you stay here. Come in, it's too cold out here!" It really is cold; I'm surprised the rain hasn't turned into snow or sleet or something of those sorts. I don't really know a lot about the weather.

"So, are you here all by yourself?" August said while she was sitting down on the couch. "It's really big in here, it would be a waste."

"I was living alone, now you're here."

"I suppose so. What did you do for fun? It seems rather boring here."

"You just got here, and you're already bored? You are very quick to judge."

"Huh? Oh, I didn't mean to come off that way. I'm just saying that since there's no internet and you were alone, what did you do to entertain yourself during the flood?" She had a look of shock and sorry on her face while she said that.

Embarrassing, "I mainly just read books and crocheted. How did you build that boat of yours outside?"

She smiled when I asked that. "I had heard that a flood was coming, so I decided might as well be prepared. I had nothing better to do anyway."

"You seem quite smart. What about all the food and stuff? Did you just have it on hand?" I probably should find out how she got all the stuff. She could have murdered people for it.

"I had a business making greenhouses and gardening was something I did in my free time. My grandpa always liked to be prepared for the future so that's why I have all of the food. It's mainly just canned."

Her face dimmed when she mentioned her grandpa. "Where is your grandpa? I didn't see anyone else on your raft."

"Uhm.. he didn't make it in the flo-od.." Her voice cracked and she was getting red in the face. Her eyes also started to tear up.

I don't think I should have asked that question... "Sorry.. I didn't know.. Do you want a tissue..?"

"Oh uhm.. Yea, that would be great."

I gave her a soft smile before I got up to get the tissue. I walked around the awkward table. Someday someone will trip over it. Hope it won't be me.

I walked into the other room where the tissues were and got the box. They were flower scented tissues because I hated the smell of regular tissues. Just icky.

I was walking back into the room, and it seemed she had calmed down. Thank goodness, I'm not good at comforting people.

I moved around the awkward table and gave the tissues to her. As I was sitting down, she took one out of the box and wiped her face. I thought I saw a quick smile on her face as the tissue was near her nose, but as soon as I blinked, it was gone.
