Changbin sighed deeply as he swiped through photos of his high-school graduation on his phone. He was on campus sitting on a bench outside, taking in deep breaths of fresh spring air and trying to calm down a bit.
He had just come out after taking an extremely important exam. It was the first exam of his second year or third semester of Uni, and it really needed to go well. He did his best, now he simply had to wait for the results.
After a while of getting distracted by pictures of memories on his phone, he turned the device off, looking up and taking in his surroundings. He took a deep breath, inhaling consciously and exhaling slowly.
He looked all around the area. Watching people walk by to who knows what lecture, the library, the cafeteria or somewhere else. Despite all of the stress he's had to go through lately, things felt calm.
Even though at home things were hard with his uncle having passed a few weeks ago and his father having been extremely down ever since then, he's still been trying to stay positive. He loved his uncle, but knowing he was at a better place now brought him a little bit of warmth and comfort.
Looking up to the bright blue sky, he smiled. There were barely any clouds in the sky, only three. His smile grew slightly wider, was his uncle somewhere up there? Smiling back at him?
He had just taken his first exam and he was full of motivation to ace this new semester, knowing fully well his uncle was watching him from somewhere, rooting for him and believing in him like he used to before he had passed.
His uncle used to be a philosopher. Ever since his health condition got worse and he moved in with Changbin's family at around the boy's graduation, the two have started becoming really close friends and having deep conversations about life. He teached his nephew a lot about ethics and morals. About life questions nobody could really answer and about how one could become a better person in life.
This internalized calmness was another something his uncle had taught him. He showed him how to be calm, how to go through life with opened eyes, being conscious of your surroundings and not letting anything really get to you. Or at least not to the point where it destroyed you without you having any control over it.
"Excuse me..!" A worried and a with anxiety filled voice suddenly interrupted his thought process.
"Do you know where hall........6 ...... is.." The person started his question off speaking rather fast, though his voice slowed down exponentially the second Changbin turned into his direction and they locked eyes, seeing each other's faces.
Changbin looked at him, his body suddenly feeling a type of heaviness he hadn't felt in a long time, though he didn't quite understand why right away.
"It's over there in the building with the glass door, can you see it from here?" He responded casually as he pointed to the building, still not having recognized who this person standing infront of him was.
It was a blond boy with long, tied back hair. He was tall, definitely taller than Changbin and dressed very modestly yet still in a way, his outfit could be worn on the runway. It was extremely cool and fashionable.
"Uh... yes..." The boy answered unsure, uneasiness clearly lacing through his voice and he was suddenly in utter hurry.
Despite his voice exposing a bit of his internal state of mind, on the outside, his expression still looked rather cool, calm and collected. Overall Changbin didn't really notice anything off about him, as he was solely focusing on showing him the way and not really focusing on his looks or behaviors.
"Did you find someone to ask– Ou hi." A girl suddenly popped up from behind the blond guy, greeting Changbin and smiling at him.
"Hi, I was just explaining the way. It's...... [...]." Changbin explained the way another time, this time to the girl.
Changbin took deep breaths in between, not really understanding why his chest felt so tight and he had to breathe so heavily right now.
"Ohh okay, I understand now! We were in an entirely different building!" The girl laughed softly, a pretty smile on her face "Thank you ........?"
"Changbin. My name's Changbin." He smiled back.
"Thank you Changbin!" She spoke, before heading into the direction of the location they had to go to.
The blond boy however stayed standing there for another two seconds, staring at Changbin with his body being paralyzed, until the girl called him and got him out of his trance.
"Come on! We're going to be late!"
The boy quickly snapped out of it and jogged towards her without saying another word to Changbin, the two walking away together.
Changbin smiled at the little encounter with some of his fellow peers and looked back up at the sky. He breathed calmly again, paying attention to the sounds he could hear around himself.
Chan and Minho both each had opted for a different University, so now all three of them were separated and he was alone at this university.
Up until now he did manage to make a few friends, but those friendships have always been rather shallow. Nothing like a deep connection and a feeling of safety while being around them. So he's been rather a loner for the past two years.
He's been studying alone a lot, working out a lot and often making sure not to listen to music while doing so. Going places alone, to the Park to have a picnic or to the restaurant on a little date with himself. In general, he stopped listening to music or podcasts too often. He went through life consciously now, enjoying a slow and calm life without much distraction and appreciating the little things.
At first he found it awkward not to be listening to music while working out or while being on the train. However sooner or later, he started finding comfort and tranquility in it. And now, whenever he did listen to music, he enjoyed it to the absolute fullest.
Overall he's been working on himself a lot. Ever since his uncle had moved in with them and they had gotten closer, he's learned a lot about himself and started trying to become a better person.
In- and exhaling for the very last time, he soon started gathering his stuff, packing it into his bag and getting ready to leave. One last thing he had on his to-do list for today was visiting the grave of his uncle, and that's where he was heading to right now.
