I knew you for 2 seconds
I don't think I've ever wished anyone gone that fast
I hope it was quick
I hope that truck had mercy on you
My body moves on its own sometimes
Even as I ran to you I kept thinking against it
There was oncoming traffic
I could've been lying right next to you
But I was seen
You were not
I could feel the remnants of your life as I picked you up
You were warm
Your fur was soft
You were big and beautiful
You were a gray tabby
Chasing after your prey
Like a cat
God, I hope you went fast
I hope it was painless
You were so full of life
But now your blood's on the pavement
I picked you up and moved you into the shade of a bush
Safe from other cars
Quiet
Peaceful
That other driver didn't even stop
My brakes are well worn
I've never hit anything but a bird
That sparrow flew away
You didn't
I don't care how worn out my brakes get
I'll always try
Try to keep from taking life
For creatures like you
For you have done nothing other than exist
If avoiding you is at my expense then so be it
I'm mean
I've sinned
I've hurt others
But you
You did nothing
Rest in peace.

PoetryI write poems to deal with big feelings I have because I struggle with healthy coping mechanisms. I've never considered myself a poet but these are just some poems I've written that I think are good.
