I laughed
With her
Harder than ever.For some reason,
I grabbed a piece of paper
And on that paper I drew.I drew a woman
With big, afro hair
And an eye with long eyelashes. Her jewelry was gold.
Gold earrings,
Gold nose ring,
Gold necklace.She was a goddess.
Her clothes were flowy and light.
Her body was round.
And her legs were curved. The boy said,
"She is too fat."I wanted her body
To look like mine.I thought
That she was beautiful. But she was
Just a doodle
On lined paper.Her destiny was
To be put
In a folder
And never seen
Or thought about
Again.But I asked
The girl
If she would like her
As if I was
Offering up
A handful of moss. The girl said,
"Oh my God, yes!"
As if it were
The most obvious answer
In the world. And now I know
That my goddess
Of afro hair
And long eyelashes
Will not see
The inside
Of a folder
But rather
The world
From the face
Of a wall.

PoetryI write poems to deal with big feelings I have because I struggle with healthy coping mechanisms. I've never considered myself a poet but these are just some poems I've written that I think are good.
