Goddess

I laughed
With her
Harder than ever.

For some reason,
I grabbed a piece of paper
And on that paper I drew.

I drew a woman
With big, afro hair
And an eye with long eyelashes.

Her jewelry was gold.
Gold earrings,
Gold nose ring,
Gold necklace.

She was a goddess.
Her clothes were flowy and light.
Her body was round.
And her legs were curved.

The boy said,
"She is too fat."

I wanted her body
To look like mine.

I thought
That she was beautiful.

But she was
Just a doodle
On lined paper.

Her destiny was
To be put
In a folder
And never seen
Or thought about
Again.

But I asked
The girl
If she would like her
As if I was
Offering up
A handful of moss.

The girl said,
"Oh my God, yes!"
As if it were
The most obvious answer
In the world.

And now I know
That my goddess
Of afro hair
And long eyelashes
Will not see
The inside
Of a folder
But rather
The world
From the face
Of a wall.
