jisung scrutinized his reflection in the mirror, adjusting his suit with a sigh. despite muttering, "why should i care? it's not my day," an unspoken unease lingered. a soft knock interrupted his thoughts, and changbin entered. jisung welcomed him, complimenting, "you look really handsome, changbin." the older reciprocated the praise and mentioned jisung's sweet smelling cologne.
as the atmosphere lightened, chan joined, embraced by changbin. "the groom's best man, looking sharp as always," changbin proudly remarked. chan playfully responded, "can't not look this good for my first time as a best man," then turned to jisung, offering a reassuring smile and a gentle pat on the shoulder. "you look good, ji, real good," he complimented.
jisung, masking his true emotions with a joke, responded, "you never know who's gonna show up; i always need to look my best." beneath the facade of humor, a profound sadness lingered. today marked the moment he'd watch the only man he ever loved commit to someone else. despite the inner struggle, he maintained a smile, determined to keep his feelings concealed on this significant day.
felix poked his head through the door, announcing, "we need to take our seats now; it's about to start." chan and changbin beamed with wide smiles, while jisung simply nodded. as they entered the hall, jisung's eyes were immediately drawn to minho standing at the front, a wide smile adorning his handsome face. the excitement radiated from him.
changbin, jisung, and felix settled into their seats at the front, next to hyunjin, while chan gracefully made his way to stand beside minho. jisung's gaze wandered to jeongin, seungmin's best man, and he exchanged a soft smile with him. despite nothing happening yet, jeongin was already tearing up. jisung wished he could do the same, but he knew he had to hold back. crying now would seem out of place, and he couldn't let anyone see the depth of his emotions.
the lively chatter of the crowd hushed to a gentle murmur as the melody of "turning page" by sleeping at last filled the air. the doors swung open wide, revealing elegantly dressed bridesmaids gracefully descending the aisle, petals drifting softly from their hands. the hall was a vision of beauty, adorned with meticulous decorations that captivated everyone's attention.
jisung glanced around, absorbing the joy radiating from the guests. amid the enchanting atmosphere, he yearned for a share in that happiness. as the melodic notes continued, seungmin made his entrance, arm linked with his fathers. a stunning figure in an all-white suit, light makeup enhancing his glowing face, and a radiant smile adorning his lips.
"he looks beautiful," jisung whispered to changbin. a shared smile passed between them as changbin whispered back, "he really does." jisung then turned his gaze to minho, whose face beamed with the same smile jisung had always cherished. it was evident that minho, too, was on the verge of tears.
for a fleeting moment, jisung allowed himself to imagine it was him walking down the aisle, a dream that seemed both distant and painfully close.
seungmin, bathed in the soft glow of love, turned to look back at his father, who wore a warm and proud smile. his father gently placed seungmin's hand into minho's, symbolizing the passage of responsibility and the start of a new chapter. as the ceremony unfolded, jisung found himself drifting into a sea of contemplation, his thoughts consumed by the echoes of what could have been.
he wondered if things would have been different if he hadn't walked away from minho that day. would their love have remained one-sided? or, in an alternate reality, would minho have recognized what was right in front of him, leading jisung to stand by him today? the weight of these thoughts enveloped jisung, and he couldn't shake the realization of the lingering love he still held for minho.
