The two guards took Natalya to the same room where James had been interrogated in a few hours earlier and not long after, the same thickset man came into the room.
Angry, his eyes slits in his porcine face, he stopped.
"Irish huh? How many more are there of you? I should have known he wouldn't be alone."
Natalya looked at him and lifted her chin.
"We don't need more than the two of us. But as you know who we work for, I suggest you let us go and there'll be no more said"
The man looked at her then smiled cunningly. "Yes, I know which group you belong to and I know they don't take failure well. I think I'll just put you in with your friend and let the cold take care of you. Your boss might even thank me for taking care of his problems." He went to the door. "Guard? Take her away, throw her in with her colleague"
The guard was the same one who she had beaten and he was limping slightly with an ugly expression on his face. He motioned her with his gun and with a flip of her hair Natalya walked out the door and down the corridor with the gun barrel jammed into her back.
Two minutes later and another guard was opening the gate. James leapt to his feet when he saw her, and with final thrust, the guard pushed her in while they locked the gate behind her. James caught her as she stumbled and they were silent as they watched the guards walk away.
Whirling her to face him, he grabbed her arms.
"What were you thinking!!" he said "I told you to get as far away from here as possible!"
Natalya just smiled at him gently.
"And I told you, there was no way I was going to leave you behind" she said. Lifting her hand, she placed it on the side of his face and he felt his anger just drain away. He grabbed her, wrapping his arms around her, pulling her into him.
"My heart nearly stopped when they took you away" he said feelingly. "How did you learn to fight like that? What style of fighting was it even?"
She stood back. "That's another story for another time" she said. "Let's sit for a moment while we think this through."
As they sat in the enclosure, he put his arm around her and she rested her head against his shoulder.
"I'm sorry you got involved in all this" he said.
She sighed.
"It wasn't you who made me follow you in here" she said."All the same, you wouldn't be in this mess if it wasn't for me.
"We'll find a way out somehow" she said.
They were quiet for a while and it was about half an hour later when Natalya tensed and looked up. James looked at her then around them, seeing nothing.
"What is it?" he asked?
She didn't reply but, unwinding herself from his arms she stood up and walked a few steps forward. James followed her, frowning.
She didn't respond when he said her name and instead, turned her head as though trying to pinpoint a sound. James watched her carefully and then grew alarmed when her expression changed to one of terror. All of a sudden, her whole stance changed. Her body tensed and she gasped.
Taking her shoulders, he tried to get her attention.
Natalya, Natalya! What is it? What's wrong!"
She was looking around wildly and gripped his hands on her shoulders.
"We have to get out of here tonight! Now!"
"What is it? What happened' he demanded softly.
She looked at him, her attention caught, a despairing look on her face. She was silent for a minute appearing to battle with something within her.
He frowned.
'Natalya, you're shaking. What is it for god's sake!"She looked up at him, misery on her face.
"You remember I told you I had secrets?" She said. He nodded.
"There are things you don't know about me. But there is a man who does. And he has been hunting me for about five years. He is here. I can hear his thoughts and tomorrow he will come for me and when he finds me, he will try and kill me!"
He looked at her, horrified.
"Kill you? What in the world for!" he asked. She turned from him, her hands to her face.
"Gods!" she said. "I can't believe I'm doing this again!" then she turned back to him, her face tortured.
"I can get us out of here" she said, her voice intense "but if I do, it will change forever, the way you view the world. You will never be the same again."
He looked at her, his thoughts awhirl.
"I don't know what is going on Natalya but if there is a way you can get us out of here, then I'll help however I can.
She looked at him for a minute then came towards him. She stepped right up to him and put her hands on his coat.
"Kiss me" she said "Because when you see what I am going to do, you may never want to be around me again" then she touched her lips to his. Her touch ignited something in him, frustration over the last few days of not being able to touch her, longing, because he hadn't felt like this for anyone else, and passion. His hands dove into her hair as he pulled her too him. She wrapped herself around him and he could feel her desperation. For a few seconds they were lost in each other before she pushed her hands against him and backed away.
"Promise me something" she said. "Promise me that when you see this you won't try and hurt me. I won't be as I am now but I will still be able to understand you.'
He was as confused as he had ever been and just shook his head.
"Of course not. I could never hurt you!" She just looked at him sadly, still backing away. Once she was about five meters away, she stopped.
"James. You have walked into a fairy-tale." and with that, the air seemed to shimmer around her and the next thing he saw was a large silver wolf standing on the snow.
