On the last day of August, our love, intense and consuming, peaked. His dark brown eyes shone brightly in the moonlight. It marked our final day together, a culmination of a love story that began during Christmas. We knew the end was inevitable – I was a student in his hometown, and my impending graduation meant I had to move away. Despite our promise not to get too attached, we deceived each other and ourselves.
The months flew by, and we decided to part ways on the last day of August. As the time approached, words became elusive. The bitter-sweetness of saying goodbye, the acknowledgment that we had loved and been loved, left us both speechless. I tried to connect with him through his eyes, but he seemed lost in a labyrinth of thoughts. When I touched his hand, he kissed it. A tight hug barely held back my tears. "That's it," I told him. "Take care, and please don't forget me." He looked into my eyes, gently touching my face, and said, "My love, my heart recognizes your heartbeat so well; you can never be forgotten. You are the love of the life I almost had." That's the last memory I have of him. I haven't seen him since, but sometimes, in my dreams, he revisits my thoughts.
