Fires sparked and crackled in the background. Red and orange lights danced in the shadows and filled the sky. Figures were seen in the smoke. The long silhouettes seemed to dance in the sky. Smoke layered the torn and tattered battlefield of Gallifrey. Screams from human and non-humans alike were heard from every direction. Lasers and blasts were resonating off the red mountains and silver trees. The sky was as red as fire. Two parents: a mother, Terisa, and a father, Theta quickly held there young small daughters hand. They did not have much time to save her. The young girl was silent the entire trip towards the storage area. The screams were coming closer and Terisa was worried. The Type 40 machine in front of them was writhed with worry. The Type 40 was alive; it was not just an inanimate object. Theta and Terisa opened the door to the Type 40 and placed their seven year old daughter in the center of the room. The large center council greeted her and touched her mind happily establishing a link between the young girl and the machine. The young girl looked at her parents and she knew that she would be safe.

“I’m sorry my daughter, we must leave you, you must go alone. This world, everything you know, is ending, find your way. Find a better life. Your father and I have prepared you for this for a very long time. Just be happy.”

A loud bang caused the Type 40 to worry and sound an alarm. The daughter nodded and smiled.

“I will be safe, good bye mother…father...”

The girl with a knowing hug, looked at her parents for the last time. The engines of the machine began to whirl and her parents stepped outside and waved. The doors closed and she smiled at the machine. She knew in her heart that she would never be able to return to her home, to her family….and to her life.

“My name is the Phoenix. What is yours?”

The Machine replied telepathically through her head, The Time and Relative Dimension in Space.

“T.A.R.D.I.S. that’s easy enough to remember. Am I the last left?”

The T.A.R.D.I.S. replied yes. Phoenix smiled sadly and looked toward the sensor.

Years had passed for her and she was tired of running from the past that continued to haunt her. She was an adult, fully grown but it was time for a break from the hectic life on the T.A.R.D.I.S.

“Take me to Earth; I want to live as a human for a while.”

The Chameleon Arch lowered and she smiled placing it on her head. The Fob Watch glistened as her DNA was switched to that of a humans. A scream was heard and a searing pain passed though her while she slipped into the realm of the unconscious.

A classroom came into view as Adrienne opened her eyes. The white board in the front of the room was stark white against the royal blue walls. Her clothes were simple, a plaid shirt and a pair of jeans. Her long brown hair came down to about her hips and her blue eyes sparkled. She was seventeen now and those past nightmares did not haunt her as they once had. Her dreams were a sense of comfort in an uncaring world. Her dreams showed of different worlds, and different times, nothing like the world she was living in now. Those aliens in her mind, the time lords, they were a figment of her imagination. She had accepted that after a long time. She wanted to believe there was something more than that. Her pocket watch was hanging on her pants.  She didn’t know why she kept it; it was old and broken but, she felt she needed it.

“Adrienne Ruso, please answer the question.”

Adrienne smiled. She was very clever.

“When you take pi divided by the sum of 5+ 6 and multiply it by 65 it equals 227.71”
