Peter swung in through his apartment's open window with practiced precision. He yanked his mask off his head, drawing in a sharp breath as the action agitated his newly sprained wrist. He shrugged off the rest of his suit with relative ease, the real struggle being putting his sleepwear on. He managed an oversized hoodie, but the searing ache in his right wrist made putting on pants impossible. With an audible thud, he flopped onto his bed, praying his enhanced healing would take care of it before school the next morning.
Around lunch the pain was almost unbearable. After handwriting an essay on how he won't be late to his first period, dodgeball in gym, and a mandatory coding class, Peter felt that shoving a knife through his wrist himself would hurt less. He longed to tell his aunt, maybe get some ibuprofen, an ace bandage or something, but he just couldn't bring himself to make up a lie. Especially while she's at work, she didn't need the stress. He could make it one last period, no need to be a bother now.
He forgot what day it was. It was Thursday, and he was invited over to Stark Tower to get his suit updated. Already sitting on the public bus, he doesn't hear the text from Happy asking where he is.
He panics and stares at his phone now that Happy is calling him, unsure of what he should do. Reluctantly, he answers and explains that school got out early and he was already at home, making sure to apologize for not letting him know in advance.
He sprints to his apartment, through the small parking lot and past Happy's empty car. Once he's scaled the wall and broke into his apartment, he snatches his suit and throws it into his backpack along with a phone charger, all as Happy is about to break down the fucking door.
"Peter?! Lets go!"
Peter swings the door open and apologizes again for being late, happy doesn't notice how he winces when he locks the door behind him, or how out of breath he is. Or at least he doesn't comment on it.
The ride to the tower is tense, and Peter is uncharacteristically silent as he stares out the window. When they arrive at the tower, Peter thanks Happy for the ride, but without the typical enthusiasm. After a moment of contemplation, Happy shoots Tony a text.
"Kid's acting weird. Just sent him up."
"If he pukes on my floor it's your fault"
Friday announces peters arrival, and Tony calls him over from where he's situated in his lab.
"Had any issues with it?" Tony asks as he plugs it into some kind of monitor that peters sure would cost more than all of his organs."Uhh no," Peter replies, sending a text to May that he got to the tower safe. "The fingers are a little worn out from last night though."
Tony hummed as he inspected the hands of the suit. "A little worn out, huh?" He asked incredulously, showing the prominent holes in every finger to Peter.
"I was falling off a building and I didn't have any web fluid."
"Stronger finger pads and more ammo then."
They worked together on advancements to the suit, throwing around ideas freely. After an hour or two Tony questioned why the kid wasn't doing his homework.
"I already did it."
"We need to get you a hobby," Tony replied without looking up from a web shooter he was dismantling.
"Maybe getting good grades is my hobby." Tony turned to deadpan at him, Peter's expression remained unchanging.
"God, you need to go to parties or something."
