The Yule Ball

Harry and Ron had managed to get dates after all. They were going to go with Parvati and Padma, the twins. Harry would go with Parvati, the Gryffindor girl, and Ron would take Padma, the Ravenclaw. I felt like no one truly expected to go with anyone from a different house, but a Gryffindor with a Slytherin felt incredibly unlikely.

I was glad I hadn't told Harry and Ron who was taking me to the Yule Ball because I feared their judgement, and their disapproval. No one actually knew Matteo like I did. We had a connection that no one could understand. I couldn't wait to have fun with him tonight.

The day had gone by quickly, and I was now getting ready with Hermione.

She gasped when she saw me in my dress for the first time. "Maria, it's beautiful." She said.

"Thanks, yours is really lovely as well, Hermione." She wore a pink dress that faded into light and was floaty around her shoulders.

"Do you want to walk out with me?" Hermione asked

"Do you want to walk out with me?" Hermione asked.

"You go ahead, I'll be right behind you." I said, smiling kindly.

"Okay, see you there." She left.

I was the only one left in the Gryffindor common room, and I was left wearing Slytherin colours. I looked in the mirror one last time. I was dressing like this because I was one of them. I was with Matteo, who was a snake. It was when I walked out of the common room and neared the great hall that I actually felt like a snake too.

I had been sneaking around, keeping secrets from everyone, and slithering my way away from danger in the hands of my love. I was having some trouble walking down the stairs in my dress, when I heard someone walking behind me.

"Maria," He called.

I turned to see George walking out of the common room in his dress robes. He didn't look nearly as bad as Ron had.

"Hey, George." I said. "I'm just having some trouble walking down these stairs, so you can go on without me if you want." I practically warned him of my slowness.

"Don't worry," He offered me his arm, and we walked down the moving stairs together.

I dropped his arm after that, and we walked next to each other the rest of the way.

"Got a date?" I asked him.

"Yep. And she's a catch." He bragged.

"Only the best for George Weasley." We shared a laugh.

"Are you nervous?" He asked.

I swallowed. "Definitely."

"Who's taking you?"

"Well, I'm about to go to the ball, so I might as well tell you." I said. "Matteo Riddle."

"What?" George asked, shocked. "No way."
