CIB HEADQUATER, MUMBAI

Esha walked into the CIB headquarters the next morning, her mind still echoing with the conversation she'd had with Reyansh the day before. It was a relief to have at least opened the door to dialogue, but she knew there was a long road ahead. For now, she was determined to focus on the case at hand.

The cold case they were working on was one that had stumped investigators for years. It involved the murder of Meera Khanna, the daughter of a prominent politician. Meera had been found dead in her apartment under mysterious circumstances, and despite an extensive investigation, the killer had never been caught. The recent emergence of new evidence had brought the case back into the spotlight, and the CIB was tasked with solving it once and for all.

Esha entered the briefing room where the team was already gathered. A large whiteboard dominated one wall, covered with photographs, notes, and timelines related to the case. Reyansh stood at the front, organizing the files.

"Alright, everyone," Reyansh began, his tone authoritative yet approachable. "We're diving into the Meera Khanna case today. Let's review what we know and outline our strategy moving forward."

Esha took her seat, pulling out her notebook and pen, ready to jot down key points. Her focus shifted entirely to the case as Reyansh began outlining the details.

"Meera Khanna was found dead in her apartment four years ago," Reyansh started, pointing to the photos on the board. "The official cause of death was asphyxiation, but the circumstances were suspicious. There was no sign of forced entry, and her valuables were untouched, ruling out a robbery motive."

Esha scanned the photographs of the crime scene. Meera's apartment had been left in pristine condition, with no sign of struggle or disruption. It was as if the killer had known her, had been able to gain entry without raising alarm.

"The initial investigation identified several persons of interest," Reyansh continued. "But due to a lack of concrete evidence, no arrests were made. We have a fresh lead, however—a witness has come forward claiming to have seen someone leaving Meera's apartment on the night of the murder."

The witness's testimony was crucial, and Esha knew it could be the breakthrough they needed. "Do we have any details on the witness?" she asked.

"Yes," Reyansh replied. "The witness is a neighbor who recently moved back into the building. She claims she saw a man leaving Meera's apartment around midnight on the night of the murder. She was afraid to come forward before due to personal reasons, but she's willing to talk now."

"Have we corroborated her story?" another team member asked.

"We're in the process of doing that," Reyansh said. "We'll need to interview her and verify her account. We also need to re-examine the evidence from the crime scene to see if anything matches her description of the suspect."
